Game Won't Install!

so whenever I go to install Skyrim the install screen from steam just sits their for like 20+ minutes and says "installing"  and then eventually it will give me a connection timeout error but the installation hasn't even hit 1%, see the picture below.

Servers are probably weeping as everyone is trying to get all of the games and since Skyrim is on a very good sale now it is to be expected. It may work after a few tries. Also worth restarting steam or changing your download server.

Check your download speeds, mine did this the other day and that was because I had .10mb/s download speeds. If it's too slow it'll just give up.

 

Use TestMy.net instead of speedtest.net though, TestMy.net is more accurate

Try installing it from DVD. Looks like your connection is just too slow. What connection speeds do you have, by the way?

20 down and 4 up. I typically get the speeds a pay for.

I would double check though, I get 80 down/40 up usually, but since the summer sale started my connection has started dying on me. Better safe than sorry.

 

The other option though is that the Steam Servers are too overloaded with requests to download that game. I know I just bought it and am going to download it in the next few minutes too.

 

Another troubleshooting step I'd take is to just restart your computer. As simple/silly as it sounds, it fixes 99% of all my steam errors.

Alright awesome, its working now. 

 

I guess the servers were just having a rough time.
