Oppinions and Recommendations on my new PC-Build

Hi guys,

I'm looking forward on getting a new PC, and chose the following hardware to be implemented in my build.

CPU: Intel i5-4670k (should I wait for the new 4690k?)

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Pro4

RAM: Corsair Vengance Pro 2x4GB@1.866MHz (or G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x4GB@1.866MHz) (whats better ? CL9 or CL8,CL10?)

GPU: XFX R9 280x Black Edition DD

PSU: 450-550 Watt ? Modular! EVGA or Corsair

Case: AeroCool xPredator X3 (white ed. opinions? or Black? )

CPU-Cooler: Corsair H100i (because I want to OC the CPU! Any settings for stable setup?)

SSD: (SanDisc Ultra Plus 256GB) doesn't matter allready bought it, because it was on sale :3

HDD: 1TB (my old one will be transfered so it doesn't matter)

Yeah, so that's what I had on my mind to buy.

I live in Germany, just  mentioning.^^

I hope I'll get feedback on the build from you soon.

Looks good. The 4670 will be fine, get a 550W PSU with a 280x. Dislike the case, but i'd go with white.

If you want to OC:

I'd wait for a 4690k because Haswell Refresh has been shown as better OC'ers (?)...

Go with Z97 Asus/MSI Mobo's

If you want to OC, then add an after market cooler (like 212 EVO, which is a pretty solic air cooler for the price)

Go with 550W PSU, it's to be more on the safe side...

If yo don't plan on OC'ing, then:

You don't need 4690k, hell, you don't need 4690, just go with 4670 :D

Go with H97 Mobo (So you could upgrade later)

Still go with 550W PSU

the 4690k is stable at 4.5 with just a aftermarket air cooler, OP said hes looking at a water cooled so 4.8 easy i bet. But newegg showed a OC video of the 4690k and they got 5.5 or something stable in some crazy tests so its defiantly a overclockers dream cpu for gaming, its also what im getting  :D

I'd wait for the 4690k and get a z97 board, there's no reason to go with older tech even if it would be fine anyway. Also I think you should go with 1600mhz memory, higher frequencies won't really give you a lot of extra performance and they also cost more. I like black cases, so there's my opinion on that ;) . For the psu, I only have experience with corsair and they make great stuff, I don't know about evga so I'll suggest corsair.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

thanks for the fast responses ^^ This Community is truly AWSOME.

Any one can give me links to tests of the 4690k?

And what's the difference between CL9,8,10,etc.?

Wait for the i5-4690K. It is only a couple of weeks away and has a 3.5GHz base speed.

Get a z97 motherboard to go with the 4690k.

Lower CL is always better. DDR3-1866 CL 9, which ever is least expensive.

For a 280x I'd suggest 550W.

I would suggest that you look for a different case. Depending on budget you might consider the Define R4, H440, Phantom 410, Air 540, Carbide 500RGraphite 760T.

Principal reason is cooling. 200 mm fans don't actually seem to move that much air, especially through drive towers.

The plastic vent pieces on the top are likely going to get broken. The top vents can be accidentally closed which will impact H100i efficiency.

The fan grills on the side window block the window and there is no filter on them. In my opinion it is better to have software and the motherboard control all the fans.
