Crysis 3 stuttering w/ 290X

Buckley

So ive been playing through the crysis series and now in crysis 3 during cut scenes and during regular game play, every few seconds the game stutters terribly. im looking at the GPU usage at its at 100%, which i expected. but then i looked at CPU usage and it was at max 20% even during game play. the cards not not either. could it be a driver issue? im on 14.6.

i have an 8350 at 4.7ghz atm

and the game is maxed out

Can be a thousand things honestly its hard to tell, take a look at cpu usage for each core is there any core maxing out 100% while others are unused or low usage?

Try lower settings one a time too,you should be able to run C3 no problem maxed on 290x but there might be a setting or two eating resource really badly, try lower/turn off setting one at a time and test.

CPU usage is all over the place :/

That's weird. C3 is heavily dependent on GPU, the only time when CPU matters is when you have anything lower than an i5/8350.

  • 3 months later...

Same issue happens on my machine as well.

Core i5 4690k

XFX R9 290

8GB DDR3 1600mhz

No OCing

14.9.1 Beta drivers

I thought it was VRMs overheating but they don't get as hot as I see others with VRM issues. I also don't run into the issue in Titanfall which gets the VRMs to the same temps.

I'm on low/med settings (UHD res, though).

Two things to try..

Turn off origin overlay in game properties in origin by right clicking the game icon in origin.

Or

Exit rivatuner if you have msi afterburner

I could max out Crysis 3 on my 8350/7970ghz on 1080p, with my 8350 on 4ghz, without stuttering, so it shouldn't be your CPU.

My friend with a 3770k and a 770 had this problem though, made it unplayable. But we never found out what the problem was
