In tel intel i nt elin tel INTEL!!!!

Intel offers some useful functions like Rapid Storage Technology to boost your HDD. And all 10 Intel PCs I have at home still work, all of them a different CPU gen. (1996, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011(2x) 2013. A few years back, I had a AMD PC. The cpu broke for no reason.

For an inexpensive HTPC, Richland is the best game in town, it's also okay for 720p and some 1080p gaming. You can build a non-terrible $300 PC around it (especially if you choose Linux as your OS), you can't really do that with Intel. All that aside, if you have $200 more, go Intel.

Are you threatening me?!

Sorry but I am in the middle of getting a Intel machine (i7 4790K) currently .

And I was trying to defend AMD.

And yes I have never owned a AMD CPU based PC.

no doubt that the 4790K is superior to any FX no matter the clockspeed, but FX are no sloutch and are very good for the price and compete with i5 ivy based CPU's all day long for gaming once clocked properly and outdo even an highly overlcocked haswell i5 in multi-threaded workloads (video encoding, editing, modelling...etc.)

if i was thinking of getting the i5 i would think about the FX-8350 as well

i think if you do mostly gaming the ivy i5 is still the better pick but if you do some multi-threaded task AND gaming then it become the best choice and will save you some $ on top of that.

But do yourself a favor and get an FX-8320 and overclock it yourself and save some more.. you will end-up overclocking the 8350 anyway and both are likely to reach 4.4 to 4.6ghz in most cases

with some fiddling in the settings. Plan a good aftermarket CPU cooling solution and an 8+2 power phase motherboard with heatsinked VRM's cause this is what is gonna hold you back..

As far I can see FX 8230/8250 are very good for editors or heavy workloaders on budget. Gamers can use it, but i5 Ivy/Haswell is better pick. Yes, games use more and more cores, but if FX hadles BF4 with 50-60% load on core, but i5 does 65-75% the same thing on 4 cores less, we can imagine wich procesor is more effective.

Rather silly of OP to start this thread, it's so been here, done that already. Each has its forte and weakness, I have an i7 3960X, as well as an FX8350 and I can honestly say the latter hasn't disappointed one bit when it comes to games and encoding. In fact, so happy was I with it that I'd even built a Phenom II X6 1100T system just for the hell of it.....and the 1100T is no slouch as well. I play a host of games on these systems, including an LGA775 C2Q X9650, and I cannot fault their gaming performance.

If you had two options with one FX CPU in one hand and a Haswell-i7 in the other, with no cost as to which one you could have, which one would you choose?

fanboy = person who will defend their brand of choice to the death no matter what decisions they make or what the competition rolls out.

For example, an intel fanboy will refuse to go with any cpu that doesn't come from intel, no matter the price range nor the actual performance of the cpu (vice-versa for an amd fanboy). This behaviour is what is referred to as fanboyism. If tomorrow amd presented a chip with low power consumption that is faster than a 4960x and costs like a 4790k (amd PLS do it), an intel fanboy will keep on saying it makes no sense to buy amd cpus and that they are slow and power hungry compared to intel. A fanboy will also use certain specs to argue that his favourite brand's cpus are faster even if numbers proove otherwise, for example an amd fanboy will argue that his fx 6300 is faster than an i7 because it has 6 cores and the i7 has 4.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
