So I got my new fans today(AF120 LED) x2 and they are loud as f*ck my friends can here them down the mic. I run the through molex that spilts them into 4 different fan headers(2 pin) is there a way I can lower the noise by lowering the speed, as of now they are running around 1,500 rpm..

Running them through a molex will have them run at full power, you have you use fan connectors on the motherboard or a dedicated fan controller to control the speed.

Otherwise you will need to break the splitter you have and reconfigure the wires, to slow them down.

How much will a fan controller cost me?

Probably a fan controller any suggestions?

Please record if you can as my quiet edition AF120's on 7 volt run plenty quiet.

I have the same but jesus these are no where near quiet

so... you would call those fans loud AF? :D *badum tsss*
OT: you can reconfigure those molex wires to get them running at 12, 9, 7 or 5 volt.

or you could buy volt adapters. very cheap.

  • Get some fan splitters (Cheapest option) and then plug them directly into your motherboard then you can use some software to change the fan speeds depending on the temperatures of your system.
  • Fan controller price ranges from £10 to £100's really depends on how many fans you want to control and the look of the controller.

You can go rigth into the Bios and set your fans to silent mode or you can use Asus FanXpert II to configure a custom fanspeed curve.

Won't work, as he is using 4pin Molex connectors that come directly from the PSU.

EDIT: Crap didn't mean to double post. forgot to copy the quote and edit my above post.

You can get crap ones that only control 1 fan and use splitters for about £3, but a decent ones start around £25

Don't split them off a single motherboard header. If you do that you risk burning out the header because of the amount of power they'll be drawing.

You can get a fan controller or individual adapters to 5 volt for each fan.

Fan controllers are generally built really poorly because not enough people buy them to make developing a robust fan controller cost-effective (basically even if you get an expensive name-brand controller it's still basically going to be fragile, so you have to be careful fitting it).

If you're new to P.C. building and worried about breaking something expensive the most durable fan-controller I've seen (although not actually had hands-on experience of) is the NZXT Sentry Mix 2

The fan controller I use is the Zalman ZM-MFC 3  It has a watt meter and four temperature sensors and a PWM header. I chain Akasa Flexa FP5s (powered by molex) to run about twelve PWM fans off of that one header. The only problem is the build quality of the ZM-MFC 3 is pretty poor, but for what it does for its price it's superb.
