Windows-7-vs-Windows-81.jpg

I might want to give it another chance but I can't help but wonder why I would do that.

Really wanna see the Poll results

I say this because, I had a very bad Gypsie attack...they stole my wife, plow... and they touch my horse in a very bad way... he got very depressed.

Please use the forum search engine. There is a bunch of the same identical topic, including pool results.

Chill you're not mod

Win 8 destroys 7 in my opinion.  Just get classicshell and you wont have to worry about metro.

Really, it just that new UI scares me, its sooo unfamiliar !

You've been told already that you can disable it entirely. My laptop has Win8 and I never see Metro anymore. You can barely tell it's Win8 and perhaps at a glance I wouldn't even notice.

I am sorry, it just that the forum had sooo many number of thread on this topic pretty much since Windows 8 was released, pretty much weekly.

Windows 8 is a change. But the change isn't actually that big. Once you have it, and fully update it to Update 1 to enjoy the best experience of it, I think you'll quickly notice that the Start Screen, is really, a Smart Menu, scaled up full screen.

I belie, based on observations, that within about 1 month (sooner for many), you can get comfortable with Windows 8, and at this point on, you can start seeing the power of Windows 8 new Start Screen. You'll notice how better is it once you start pinning folders that you access often, make groups, position things from most used to least use, and as a gamer, be able to just pin all your games that you currently play in one location, and not part of it in Steam, part of it on UPlay, part of it on Origin, part of it without any service, how faster things can be.

And that is just the start screen. There is the rest. Like Power Menu when you right-click on the start button, or Win+X, which give you quick access to popular system settings. The new Task Manager, the new file collision detection which bugs you at the end of the transfer, not during, so on big transfer, and you leave your system as you know it will take time, you won't come back at 2% transfer or something, and notice you have an alert where Windows asks you if you want to replace some file or not. Its all done at the end, and allows you to better compare the files before overriding them or not. In addition, you can pause file transfer to speed up others, or pause them to allow some program to load faster (great if you use an HDD), then resume it.

With 8.1 my 840 Pro 256GB cold boots in around 5 seconds. Like its's been said a million times; it's much better optimized under the hood, nobody's forcing you to use the Metro UI.

I reboot maybe once /wk, 10 sec vs 5 sec isn't something that matters to me.

Are you threatening me?!

Honestly I only used windows 8.1 over windows 7 because I got it free through my uni, but after building my pc, it's grown on me over the week and I've really come to like it. I thought I'd hate the start menu and gave myself a few days before downloading classic shell to revert it back to windows 7, but I decided not to as I really like this new start menu. I wouldn't go back to windows 7 now, like I said, it's really grown on me.

Pros:

More fluid, faster startup, easier to navigate after using for a few days, more customizable imo

Cons:

It's really not much different than windows 7 besides the start menu that people hate without actually using. I think the majority of people who hate the start menu have never actually used it first hand. Give it a shot for a few days and I think you'll find it's much easier to use/navigate. Especially with the power user menu (right click the start button).
