You should get a 295x2 instead, it's as fast or faster than dual 780tis (with the exception of a few games), it cools better than dual 290x's and is less expensive than the gtx's.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

1440p =/= 4K

More vRAM is much better in 4K and the 3GB is really holding the 780ti back. If you were to go with nVidia, choose the titan black (x2) for 4K. The previous option of 2 x 290X is still the best choice.

1440p though. At 4K, the amount of VRAM will come into play. The R9 290Xs will perform better in newer game in particular as they are starting to use much more VRAM.

that was to show that the 780Ti with less Vram and Bit bus can handle Big Res better, and it can handle 4K because it's additional ,POWER, compensate the lack of Vram, so it's working fatser that the 290X to do that

That's in BioShock infinite. In something like Heavily Modded Skyrim, 780Tis will drop to completely unplayable FPS when they run out of VRAM. Even on just 3 1080p monitors, games like Far Cry3 and AC4 go over 3gb VRAM usage. In most games they'll be around the same, but 3GB VRAM won't be enough for long.

Ohh yes base your rig decision on one game that's optimized for Nvidia way to go fanboi.

VRAM is important that's why R9 290 series is the best idea.

witch is why i said the Extra Power in the 780Ti will  compensate the lack of Vram, it's running out of it but working faster than the 290X keeping up, but hey you're right more games are using more ram so i guess it depends on the game and Watch dogs is an example

But the thing is, it doesn't matter how powerful the cards are when they run out of VRAM. 2 780Tis perform around the same as a 670 does in the same game when they run out of VRAM in Skyrim (around 3-7FPS). Right now, 780Tis are better, but when they start running out of VRAM more often, games will become completely unplayable.

but because it's working faster, it's emptying the Vram quik (not really) and compensating the Small amount, wile the 290/X work slower but have enough space on it's frame buffer so it can handle it as well

Indeed I think it is best to wait for next gen or the one after that before making an investment for 4k as it will be a big waste of money to buy now when the next gen is going to be a lot better and not just refreshes of old tech.

Maxwell is looking very good and AMD better hope they have something similar!

For the OP buy the dual r9 290X it's so much cheaper and by that I mean you will have $250 more if you get dual 290x over dual 780 ti with that extra 250 you can buy better 290x's that will OC more and make up the difference

When Skyrim goes above 3GB VRAM usage, 2x 780Tis drop to 7FPS and don't go up until you move to an area with less high res textures or something. The speed of the card become completely irrelevant when they run out of VRAM. They don't "Empty" the VRAM or anything like that, it will depend on the size of the textures and objects that are being processed by the GPU. If it emptied the VRAM, then if you just left it looking at one stop, it wouldn't use any VRAM after a while.

If you have a game that uses 3.5GB VRAM, you could have 2 R9 290Xs running it at say, 40FPS. Theoetically, 780Tis should run it faster, but they're limited by 3GB of VRAM. Because of this, they will be running the game below 10 FPS.

It doesn't matter how fast the card will work, or is able to work when it's being limited by the VRAM, not the clock speed.

Yes yes yes, but it's being delayed again, and getting a future proof Rig/Components with Brut Power is just better that waiting another 1+ Year

Yep, definitely depends on the game. Most are fine for VRAM right now, but things like Watch Dogs are getting very close to 3GB even at 1080p (apparently). Hope this will push Nvidia and AMD to up the VRAM on their cards rather than releasing one with more later on.
