Yes of course it will be compatible. I would recommend a cheaper motherboard. You don't need a Z87 board since your cpu isn't unlocked. Then I would put that saved money towards a better graphics card like and R9 280, 280x, or GTX 760. You also don't need a 750 watt power supply for your components. 500 watts will be just fine.

I should be studying.

You do not, absolutely not need a 750W PSU for a GTX 750 Ti which is made to be power-efficient. At that price point, I expect to see a GTX 760, R9 280 at the very least unless this is some workstation, server, or other build. Also, why a Z87/Z97 with a locked CPU? Grab the i5-4690K or i5-4670K instead. If not, then grab a H97, H87, H81, or B85 mobo. You can grab a 2X4GB RAM set for less. Does your friend need 2TB? If not, then grab a 1TB and try to squeeze in a SSD.

What is up with that 750W power supply for a 750Ti? You could run that system off the Seasonic G Series 360W.

What does your friend wish to do? What games at what resolution with what settings? Because the 750Ti can be considered an entry-level GPU, not much of a gaming GPU.

I'm beginning to wonder if people just grab the GTX 750 Ti because it's the latest GPU out there - along with Nvidia's heavy advertisement - which for whatever reason equates to being the best... Really?! This is a trend that needs to stop.

Get a 1tb hdd and add an ssd. get a 760. step down to an h81 h87 h97 b85 chipset board with an i3. Get a 500 or 650 watt psu. Get cheaper ram. 1600 cas9 is a good value.

I agree completely! I've seen people here recommend it out of pure ignorance or fanboyism against cards like the 270, GTX 660 and HD 7850.

This build is cray cray! $900 with a 750 Ti!?

I think I seen a water-cooled build with a GTX 750 Ti... Jaysus... Well, I'm working on giving this dude's/dudette's friend some options.

This is better but I'd change the motherboard, that mobo plus an 8-core chip is a recipe for disaster! The G46 barely supports them. The G43 will just fry, It doesn't even have heatsinks!

If your friend can stretch his budget to $40 more, he'll get something amazing.

Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($98.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($64.99 @ Newegg)

If your friend doesn't want to overclock, may get into video-editing, rendering, and such, then the Xeon E3-1230 V3 is a hell of a CPU - it's basically an i7-4770 for less. One thing to note, the i7-4770K/4790K, i5-4690K/4670K, and Xeon E3-1230 V3 are identical when it comes to gaming.
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($249.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H97M-E35 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 280 3GB TurboDuo Video Card  ($199.99 @ Newegg)

If your friend doesn't want to overclock and does not care for anything but gaming, then getting a locked i5-4590 and using the funds to grab a R9-280X is more than enough for 1080p gaming.
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($199.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H97M-E35 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ Amazon)

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer  ($14.99 @ Newegg)

Here's a FX-8320 build. Make sure your friend overclocks this thing at least to the specs of the FX-8350.
CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($143.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($107.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($64.99 @ Newegg)
