You could always switch to an APU for light gaming. No way you will be able to get a monitor and current spec build under $500. You could get a worse case. Save some money and get the 750k instead of the 760k. Can your friend use a tv for a monitor? Get a really cheap mouse?

I should be studying.

I have a 320GB HDD laying around but he has never done this. He said he wanted to get into gaming so I'm trying to help him, I do have a 500GB Green HDD that I will be getting rid of.

I'd go for a cheaper mouse for now. That is a nice mouse but if you need to cut the price I would say thats a spot to do it.

Try this. You could give him you WD 500gb drive. Then he could get the gaming mouse.

You can play with an APU. Just low to medium settings. Then he can buy a dedicated card later as an upgrade.

I should be studying.

60$ over ok? I wouldn't go any lower than a 270 and an APU really isn't worth it.

This is a great build. He can stretch the extra $60. Tell him to work a little more and wait. It will be worth it. This will blow an APU or a 260x out of the water. You could give him your WD drive and that would bring it down to $500

I should be studying.

For Gaming I would go dual channel memory also a cheaper mouse wouldn't hurt XFX has a 1GB version of the R7 260X for $110 which would save a little bit of money as well

except the PSU for that is under powered 500watts or more is recommended

That is a great build, but the purpose of this was him posting a build cheaper than the one you said, and asked if there was any way to get it to under $500.

I do think that his friend should save up a bit more and get your build though.

...430 is plenty for an R9 270 dude. A GTX 780 is fine with a 500W PSU. 430 is plenty.

A 1gb card? I would stretch for the build with the R9 270. The guy needs at least a 2gb card.

I should be studying.

Why does he need atleast a 2gb card? Battle field four only REQUIRES a card with 512mb of memory

Games are using more and more VRam these days. A card with 2gb will outperform a 1gb plain and simple. There is a big difference between minimum required specs and recommended specs buddy.

I should be studying.

60$ over ok? I wouldn't go any lower than a 270 and an APU really isn't worth it.
