Can i play games in 16:9 resolutions on a 21:9 Resolution monitor without it being stretched?

NeoZeon

Does anyone know if this is possible?

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018

Yes, Linus mentioned it in his LG UM[numbers] review.

He mentioned that you can run games at 2560x1440 on a 3440x1440 panel, and it works the same way with 2560x1080.

it might not stretch and fill the entire screen, but you should be able to.

For me it have not worked yet, but i guess it should work if you could change the resolution and aspect ratio separately.

Thanks!

I'd prefer it not to fill the entire screen: I do not have a powerful computer (just a 3 year old macbook pro), and I mostly do productivity things but if i can super scale down the resolutions for some light gaming that is ideal.

For my ASUS, there is a setting in the monitor menu to automatically adjust without the need to manually change screen resolution from Windows display setting, not sure about AOC but worth check to find out. It's just a lot easier.

Er, what? Of course you can; 21:9 is identical to 16:9, just wider.

Set your games to 1080p or 1440p; very simple.

'Course, you'll deal with MASSIVE black bars on the side of your screen (pillarboxing), but that's the price we pay..

As for things that don't let you set your resolution, well, just make sure scaling is disabled or set to aspect ratio; or use various tools to workaround things (not sure what's available for mac, but surely some stuff exists).  Only real problem there is some indie games and older titles; which are honestly best played on smaller/16:10 monitors respectively (for scaling reasons).
