Hello Forum!

As i'm sure you all know unless you don't use Chrome (and I know a lot of people don't) Google has disabled 3rd party extensions that aren't in the web store. But I think that if I understood correctly from a post on some forum that isn't this one you can still use them if you are using the developer version of Chrome. Could anybody post a link to that I can't find it.

I've been able to install unofficial extensions in the regular build of Chrome:

1. Go to the extensions page and enable developer mode

2. Use winzip or similar to extract the .CRX file to somewhere on your computer

3. Go back to you extensions page and click [Load unpacked extension]

4. Navigate to the files you extracted and install then

It stays there for me... It could be something to do with the way the CRX is packaged. I wouldn't be surprised if they remove this workaround soon anyway :(

True. Google is turning slowly into more like Apple. Seriously...who are they to decide if non-chrome store extensions are a security issue to their users...(which I still think is a BS reason just to cover up their need for more control over chrome users). It's almost as ridiculous as if Microsoft were to force all Windows 8 programs to go through the Microsoft store for validation.

There is something called "Chrome Canary". (https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/canary.html). I do not know if this supports 3rd party extensions but this is a development version of chrome aswell.

Yeah that's what I downloaded and now I can use my 3rd party plugins.
