Hey guys,

So I wanted to get the Homebrew Channel on my Wii Non-U, to get online features. Has anyone does this before, and if so can you help me? I have an SD card and a computer that can read and write to it, and a black Wii. All the youtube links looked sort of shady.

If you are still on version 4.3, use Letterbomb. It's extremely easy. You just type in your Mac address, do a captcha, and then you put the file on your SD card. Then, on your wii, plug in the SD card and go to mail. Go back and forth a couple days until a red letter appears. When you click on the letter, it will start the installation of homebrew channel. I've done it on 2 of my Wiis and a couple friends', never failed.

I think the main thing is to make sure that the SD card is 2GB or lower or the Wii will not read the card.

I am really bad at the software side of computers. What is the root of the SD drive?

The moment you click on it, and it opens the main folder, that's root. Just like how the root of your boot drive is C:\

How do I know what Wii software version im running?

Yeah.

If and after you install the Homebrew channel, install a couple IOS's and get some cool software running on your Wii. Read up on IOS here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS

Different software on your Wii will use different IOS. Before installing software with a WAD manager, get the necessary IOS.

...It's easier once you get used to it :P

Sorry, didn't see that part, was getting too ahead of you. Go to Settings > Wii Settings and it will be in the top-right corner.

I want someone with real experience.

Is there anything that I need to know?

@Sonefiler I have soft-modded 2 Wii's, one my own, another my friends. Both were modded to play game ISO's as both our DVD drives no longer read the disc's correctly because they've been overused. If you need anything just mention my username @kirashi in a post and I'll hawk to it. (When online of course.)

Letterbomb is the easiest way to start the hack. Personally I'd recommend using XFlak's ModMii script system. It's extremely easy, and downloads all the hacks/mods/iOS's for you based on your Wii version. GBATemp has a great guide on modding the Wii using ModMii. I'd start there and let me know where you get stuck, if you do.

The Homebrew channel itself is in the Letterbomb package. You install homebrew software afterwards.

Okay. So, in my SD card I have the folder "private", "README.txt", "README-HBC.txt", README-BootMii", License.txt, CREDITS.txt, boot.elf and APACHE-2.0.txt. Is this all I need?

Yes. Afterwards, create 2 folders in the root titled "wad" and "apps".

Hey, wow, sorry for taking such a long time to get back to you. I have been quite busy and never check my forums on a regular basis.

Yes, you need hackmii/bootmii installer from this site here http://bootmii.org/download/

Basically I believe you unzip bootmii to the root of your SD card, and when the Letterbomb hack runs the buffer overflow exploit it looks for the bootmii files in said folder on your SD card.

Bootmii sometimes goes down from time to time; their servers are after all hosted for free.

Let me know if you got bootmii to run, or at least Letterbomb. Remember to use XFlak's ModMii installer for easy installation.

Unless you've got the SDHC update

I was able to use a 4GB SDHC card no problem back in 2011, then again I believe newer Wii's support SDHC cards properly with the newer hack versions.
