I am preparing for a new build, and when it comes time to actually do this build, I am going to have a couple of extra fans that I am going to use. Every time I have seen top mounted fans, they have been exhaust, but I don't want my case to have negative air pressure, so if there is a rear exhaust, can the top fans be used as intakes?

Thanks for your help.

yes, but the general rule is the top should be exhaust simply because heat rises.

The case is the Corsair Obsidian 350D, and I am either going to have the standard fans in the front and rear, with two Corsair SP 120s in the top as intakes, or I will put the standard front 140 in the top (as an intake) and put the 2 SP 120s in the front. It depends on if the top supports 140 mm fans or not.

I think the top only supports 2x120

it's upto u, I'd personally just run 2x120sp as intake in the front, and 1 AF on the back as exhaust and leave the top

that way u still have positive pressure and the hot air exhausts it's self out the top just by rising naturally

or are you running a rad?

Are you using the Obsidian 350D, or are you just being general about fan placement?

And, no, no radiator, just wanted a bit more airflow to help with temps for overclocking.

Since you're not using a rad, I'm assuming you're using an aftermarket CPU air cooler. In which case you could benefit from having the top fans as intake supplying more fresh air to the cooler. The stock 140 front intake, stock rear exhaust 120 and two SP120's top intake is exactly the setup I'd go with in your setup.

I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper 212. Thank you.
