I was offered these choices and I believe they are all 1.6 volt kits.  The thing is the boards I own, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 & Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3, both say they support 1.5 volt memory and have DIMM sockets.  The memory I am being offered is also UDIMM.  What can 1.6 volt kits UDIMM memory be used with?  The person I am dealing with at Mushkin is offering this ram to me as they no longer have the psu I had bought from them available and are compensating me by offering me other things.  The cpus I have in those boards I mentioned by the way are the AMD FX 6300 and the i5 2500K.  I don't mind overclocking things and pushing them but I don't want to be using ram if it is going to kill my system.  What is the deal here?

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I can not guarantee you will not damage your boards, as I have no experience with those boards specifically. What I can tell you is that your 2500k's memory controller will operate just fine up to 1.7+V on the DIMM, as I have been running 2133MHz/2400MHz at 1.68-1.7V for going on 2 years without a single issue (memory wise that is. Had an issue with the junk 212EVO mounting causing it to look like a memory issue).  Also note, that neither AMD nor Intel will service your CPU under warranty of you are running outside of spec for any voltage or frequency.

 

TLDR: Your Intel board and CPU should be fine. AMD I can not say.

Now can someone comment on the AMD side of things?

i have run 1.65v ram in my fm2+ and am3+ board. its works fine :)
