Slow ISP? How much do you pay?

Recon-UK

We pay 7.50 GBP for our internet which is unlimited use using an ADSL connection.

We have Sky+HD 500GB box and channels too.

For a while now we have been getting 9mbps on a 20mbps package.

All i had to do was ring Sky, they ran a line test and found the connection is intermittent, then said it seems to be a fault at the exchange...

They are now working on the fault, and will contact me via mobile soon.

With no further hassle, she put our speed up to a respectable 17.4mbps, how is that for customer service?

Well chuffed!

For those with slow connections, get onto your ISP and show command over your own package you pay for, obviously be fair and do not expect the earth.

:D

I'm stuck at my grandparents' currently, and they're on CenturyLink. 2.83mb/s down, .47mb/s up. I called in, consulted them, they came over and gave us a new modem and "fixed the fiber", ran their own speedtest, and claimed it was up to the 25mb/s down and 5mb/s up it was supposed to be at. No change on my end, nor any other device on the network. I called in again; Repeat the process. Still no change, however, we have three modems. I found a real life item dupe, I suppose, but I still can't freakin' stream or upload at a decent rate, which is how I make my money...Thanks CenturyLink.

Even offered to pay their termination fee so we could go with Comcast (as much as I hate their service, as well)

"We'll think about it."

Every damn time.

I really wish that we'd just make organic hardware already, that grows and adapts to the demands it needs to meet. That way, grannies' computers can be floppy sacks of organicness and the 12 year old Minecrafters will look like the guys that only do bicep curls, and the nerdy programmers will finally have justice, with their body-builder rigs that skipped leg day.

A real shame that not all ISP's are great to deal with, and is why there is such bias between consumers.

Nonetheless, I'm glad they got you pretty-darn-near the rated speeds you're paying for. Enjoy it, man :)

Same thing happened to me on Plusnet but, there was a fault on the line and I was getting high pings. They sorted it and sent an engineer out for free and my speed increased and my ping decreased.

It's nice that your ISP did something to help you out.

As to how smaller places like Britain and New Zealand don't have 100% fiber by now is beyond me. I can understand why the US and Australia doesn't as the distance is vast.
If only ISP's were enforced to offer the speeds they advertised.
If you have ever read the TOS of your contract most state that they in no way can guarantee the speed advertised. but it happens in other industries too. That shiny new 2TB HDD you just bought isn't 2TB once formatted.

Sky do have Fiber, and it is available, i just have no reason to go for it, our net works fine for our uses, we are not massive pirate nut jobs, nor do we Stream our selves naked making money so..

Too much. 75 for 12/1 200gb cap -_-

Paying like $75/month for 30mbps down and 10mbps up without a cap. It's not so bad because I'm lucky enough to leave near the city but yeah.

I was with TalkTalk, worst ISP ever.  Then I moved to Plusnet, and suddenly getting these speeds.

And the price between the packages isn't that great either but they're like-for-like, except that the previous was ADSL and Plusnet is fibre optic.
