H100i Issues - Too big for case? Corsair's fault?

Go to solution Solved by Coombzy,

So what is my ultimate solution, costing the least and giving me the best performance?

Without buying a new motherboard or returning the H100i for the H80i perhaps modding the case.

So I purchased a H100i to cool my 4770k. There's just one problem...

It doesn't fit with both fans on there. One fan is being blocked by a heatsink on my motherboard. Corsair said that my 400R would support it on the website. I called the Corsair customer service, and they said that I'd have to return it to Newegg, purchase an H80i, and be able to resume my overclocking. First of all, why would they put that the H100i is supported, when in reality, it isn't?

With Prime95, at 100% load, and only one fan on the radiator, the maximum temps are right at 80 Celsius. (My i7 is OC'ed at 4.0GHz) At ide, they're roughly 40 Celsius. I like having the 240mm radiator, but I'd really like to see the real performance in having it work efficiently.

So I'm blaming Corsair on this one. The standard 120X120X25 fans are just not good for the H100i and 400R combo. My question is... is there any fans that are slimmer that will do just as good of a job as the stock fans do?

The only two slim fans I've found are in these links:

GELID: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835705067&cm_re=gelid_slim_fan-_-35-705-067-_-Product

Scythe: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21908/fan-570/Scythe_Slip_Stream_120mm_x_12mm_Fan_-_2000_RPM_SY1212SL12H.html?tl=g36c15s972&id=kPVIr7SJ

Will these to the job, or is Corsair right in saying that I need to get the H80i and say screw it?

That is not Corsair's fault your motherboard is not supported with the H100i in that case.

As @Coombzy said, the problem is compatibility with your motherboard in that case with the H100i, not the H100i and the case.

I had this problem with my 300r

SO...I drilled new holes in the mesh on the top and mounted my rad another cm forward...worked a charm! it even lined up PERFECTLY with existing holes in the mesh, I just had to file them with a drill bit to make it wide enough for a screw

Maybe you can mod it to fit?

I actually never thought about modding my case... I'll have to go in, take measurements to see how much clearance I need so that I can successfully mod it without messing the entire case up. Thanks!

Yeah with the fans on mine they touched the heatsink on my msi board. It was maybe 5mm, so all i did was move the h100i further out from the board and it lined up with the mesh top, so I just widened the holes a little and screwed it in, you honestly cannot tell. And if i remove the screws you cannot tell as the mesh still looks intact

I have the MSI Z97-G45, and currently, the radiator is installed, but is being held in by two screws. I'll have to continue modding it when I have an extra hand. So far, it works!
