as you can read from the title i would like to know the community's thoughts on valve... i personally dislike them as they seem to not care about their fans and care about $, but is that true???

what do you guys think??

i'm sorry but valve seems to be the last big (emphasis on big) company on earth that cares more about profit that its customers, yeah steam is not perfect and has got a little worse recently IMHO but is still the best place to digital pc games on the planet, gog is good but their catalog is pretty limited, origin... well its EA go figure, uplay is a flaming bag of horseshit, humble sells steam codes for charity, etc also valve is a company ofc they care about money, but at least is one of the very few that appreciates its user base more that other companies ever did,

but that doesn't mean they are perfect

their early access program is getting out of hand and valve hasn't show any care about changing or fixing it so far

the steam client is shit IMHO, its slow and clunky and almost all of it is a bloody browser, if i can spare GB of storage for the game they sale i think they could make their interface work better and faster by integrating the UI into the client

(this one is more of a complain to the community but i think valve should interfire regardless) the game marketplace is absurd, skin and items selling for hundreds of dollars is BS, they should set a limit on how much game items can sell for, yeah its people money and their choice but with this impression i won't touch it for anything

the addition of the marketplace has allow grey markets that people get rob for REAL MONEY, yeah i'm sure this is against steam trading ToS somewhere in it, but valve hasn't done anything to prevent said markets to exit and work

regardless of this valve is still a better company overall compared to others

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

i use to have the second best link in the world here, but it died ;_; its a 404 now but it will always be here

i see what u mean but the way i see it (and yes i love steam because the games are always on sale) but valve is concentrating alot on things like dota2 when alot of people want things like half life 3 and stuff and that made me think to myself "does valve care on half life fans and portal fans and stuff?" reading what you said has made me actually rethink because yes there is many worse shit companies that make games and are probably worse like u said ubisoft and their uplay stuff, and also like the tom clancy stuff and their pay to win "ghosts online".

edit: probably dota2 is something their fans love but im not familiar with esports and personally dislike esports but i can understand from a buisness perspective why they would concentrate alot on esports and ect

Valve does have its flaws, yes, but compared to companies at the same size, they're doing an impressive job.

Have you seen the ton of crap flooding Steam and the scam games being allowed on there?

Almost every week some developer dumps their entire early 90's back catalog onto Steam and labels it "Released: 2014"

And just wait until Steam becomes a monopoly.

their game support is because gabe has made the company employes to be very independent, they essentially do whatever the fuck they want to do, dota massive support is because most of them want to work on it, steam in home streaming was the idea of one guy, and when he told gaben, he simply said do it if you want to, HL3 maybe is in the works, maybe not but whatever happens to their games its because those guys wanted to do it that way

well because half life 2 was really good and sucessful why they dont have half like 3?? not saying they should rush a new game but half life 2 was out for (i actually dont remember how long) and then they have people from call of duty making games every 6 months.

it just seems wierd to me
