Machine for Steam in Home Streaming

Go to solution Solved by Vidiot,

Really? That's fantastic! That really broadens the range of devices I could get, thank you.

Yah its pretty cool, from what I have tried (I am making a YouTube video to try and help others like you :)) if the computer you want to stream to can watch HD youtube videos, then you can most likely stream games to it :D.

Right now my main gaming machine is in my basement, but I want to play my games on my 46 inch TV in my living room, and I decided to look into Steam in home streaming.

I am looking into the Intel NUC, Gigabyte Brix, and zotac Zbox as opposed to building my own small form factor machine, but would those be powerful enough? I don't really want to spend over $250-$350 USD.

What kind of hardware is required to run in home streaming? I have an extra GTX 550ti that I could throw in a machine if really necessary, but I don't want to if I don't have to, as I want something really small that I could throw in my home theater without being super loud/ big. I also have an extra 500gb notebook hard drive laying around with Windows 7 on it. Additionally, my router is the Asus Rt-N66u wireless AC router.

So overall, What kind of machine do you guys recommend to get a proper network-based gaming experience?

I'm that guy with the GPD Win.

Valve actually shows what you really need for Streaming in the Settings for In-Home Streaming, really as long as your gaming PC has a quad core CPU and a decent GPU, and the PC your streaming to is a recent laptop or such, you should be fine. I stream from my PC that has an i5-4670 and a GTX 660 to my crappy Toshiba netbook which was like $200.
