i'm just editing a super simple video in davinci resolve (720P 60fps) and my pc started laggy like CRAZY> its normally done after a few seconds but its staying now. and i was wondering if theres anything i could do or if my pc is just broken.

this is my pc https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WbXgJw

the ram and 1660 super are relatively new off ebay(i know , as in new to me)

i do have an old i7 3770 with 16gb of ram and a motherboard i could downgrade to if this is bad, but i'd really like to know a way to fix this if possible

i've tried OCCT for seeing if my 1660 or ram was bad like a couple days ago but it never showed any errors

If it is lagging literally all the time, aka being on the desktop or web browsing, I would try booting into safe mode and seeing if it continues. It's possible something might be running in the background causing the issue. Safe Mode won't stop everything from loading but it'll stop a good majority. I would also run a Defender Scan or a Malwarebytes scan. (Malwarebytes is completely free). I'm sure someone will come back and say MB is terrible but it's my personal preference.

Turning it off and on actually does help. Sincerely, I.T. Specialist.

Windows defender scan showed nothing wrong.

This only happens with davinci resolve and used to not happen on this computer til after I got this 1660, ram, and power supply more recently around the same time. Which is why I think somethings going wrong.

But weird that it's only this app. It was still open when I made the post and lagging the whole PC, nothing in task manager was at 100%, but a few seconds after the app closed everything went smooth again. (Sry I didnt fully detail that)

I also just rememberd that a couple months ago ish my PC had water fall into it.

Here's the things that are still in the PC that were in that. My ram, motherboard, and cpu. I put it back in cause it worked, could this be long term issues showing up with any of those?

If it's just with davinci resolve then I somewhat doubt its anything wrong with the computer itself. Possibly a corrupted davinci install. Have you done a reinstall of it yet?

I haven't. I can do that real quick. (I just finished editing so it'll be a bit)

You built a solid budget system, but it's not surprising that it lags on hard tasks. I'd try to render a bigger file and watch what system resources are hitting 100%. I THINK the free version of resolve disables GPU acceleration for a lot of popular formats so you might be using settings that are hitting your CPU really hard.

If the acceleration isn't the problem my next guess for a bottleneck, assuming nothing is broken, would be the SATA SSD.

I've never had any issues in the past with this SSD even on a slower CPU (my old i7). But I guess times change and my poor baby can't handle 720P anymore. Do you think using an old app would help? I still have a zipped copy of sony vegas 13 somewhere on a usb LOL

Well, that's the thing about how SSDs die. They don't always do it all at once.

Let's try to figure out what's actually wrong before we worry about that. Your performance monitor (attached to task manager) will tell you the percentage utilization for CPU, GPU, SSD, and RAM. Which one is hitting 100% will probably give us the answer.

It could be other things, but if it is the SSD it could be that putting the better GPU in is creating a bottleneck somewhere else that's causing problems. It could also be a failed SSD like others have said.

Yeah it's likely something hardware. I totally forgot this til now cause I'm reinstall DaVinci now and saw my mouse cursor on the default, I reset windows 11 like a couple weeks ago cause it was laggy as balls. So it's like probably something hardware, and I just want to make sure it's nothing too bad.

Earlier when I had lag I did open task manager and nothing was at 100%.

Is there a way to check is my SSD is going bad?
