Coil Whine

Go to solution Solved by OddOod,

it's annoying but normal

Hello!

I built my PC in late 2024, but never really gamed much until recently. Today, I was playing Call of Duty, and I noticed coil whine coming from my GPU (4070 Super OC).

Messing around with things, I decided to run Furmark. Upon running Furmark, I get zero coil whine. But when I launch CoD and load into a game, the coil whine comes back.

Is this normal?

Coilwhine can happen in some games and not be as pronounced in other applications.

I would say thats completely normal and nothing to worry about.

My good ol' GTX 1080 had zero coil whine ever since I rescued it from an etherium mine somewhere in late 2018. Except one single place.

It screeches like a hellspawn specifically in the main menu of Postal 2.

So yeah, coil whine just happens, nothing to worry about. Some cards are just more prone to it but every single one can surprise you with a song of their people if it feels so.

Well it depends really. The general rule is that the higher your fps is the louder the coil whine will be, cod as multiplayer game probably is pushing 200+fps depending on your settings.

It's normal behaviour of electronics and GPU in general, if it's not very loud then just be happy with that. It can get reaaaly loud on some models and most manufacturers won't RMA coil whine unless it's reaaaaly bad. Hell i once tested Samsung monitor and it actually had some coil whine lmao

Anyways there's no fix for this really, i heard some people claim that undervolting lowered their coil whine, so if it's distracting you enough, you might want to try that, and it's always a few $ in your pocket due to lower power draw 🙂

Thanks for the reassurance! I’m pushing about 180+ in CoD on ultra settings, so it makes sense! It threw me for a loop hearing the whine come and go as I push frames!

Anyways, thanks for the reply!

Plus Ultra!
