Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primarily Games at 1440p

Other details this was a microcenter G707 prebuilt with a Ryzen 7 3700x, EVGA RTX 3070, 32GB of DDR4 Ram. I’ve noticed that my cpu may be a bottle neck in playing Arc Raiders. I looked at trying to upgrade to a 5800x3d but the price for just the CPU is over $700 which was way over retail. Would it make sense to do a mobo/cpu/ram bundle with something like the 7800x3d assuming I keep the 3070? Or should I upgrade the GPU to something like a 5070ti and hope my cpu doesn’t bottleneck my gaming setup.

Are you looking for new chips at retail? That chip along with its successor the 5700x3D are long out of production and no longer normally available at retail. Because of this, those you do find are new-old stock and they can charge whatever they want.

Are you near a Microcenter?

Depends on the game, always. Analyze current performance and whats limiting you. PresentMon's GPU Busy/Frametime graph is great for this.

Either will likely give you a performance benefit with a 3070 (getting old these days) at 1440p and high settings in modern titles. Then again if your current CPU/platform is holding you back that much from the 3070 reaching maximum performance, maybe you need to do that first.

I'd drop a 9070XT in that thing for $600 and see how it runs.  Then look at the 5700X or 5800XT if the CPU holds you back.

The 3070 isn't a monster any more.  I'd replace that thing.

I'd get a new PC though. The GPU upgrade will be bottlenecked by CPU so. Depends what you play and all. Some not too much some can see big difference with new platform. Check some vid comparisons from some channels, like HuB with comparisons.

But yeah basically for online games it's CPU that's more important generally.

Find a used 5700x3d or 5800x3d. (ebay/aliexpress)

Spend the rest on a 9070xt.

Can probably just about manage that for your 1kUSD budget.

Will give you a fairly balanced upgrade. If you spend it all on buying a 7800x3d/mobo/cpu you'll get some benefit when its CPU bound, but you'll be immediately hitting the limits of the 3070 a lot of the time.

The reason why is because AMD stopped making am4 X3D CPUs, meaning the new ones are in limited stock, I recommend either buying a used X3D CPU or a 5700/5800X non 3D
