I need help to figure out what is going on with my new GPU before i (probably) RMA it. This is what happened in chronological order;

I am upgrading from a 3060ti so like many suggested i used DDU in safe mode, then I physically installed my new msi 5070 (it's a simple ventus 2x nothing fancy) into the PCIE slot and used the accompanying 2x8pin to 12pin adapter (all in the box it came with). It's rated for a 650w PSU which I have, so I then proceded to boot up my pc and install new drivers. I then immediately started stress testing it and found that my PC would just freeze. Everything would stop moving, including the RGB on my RAM. Mind you up to this point the card had stock settings i didnt change anything.
BIOS settings are all the default ones with only REBAR and XMP enabled (DDR4 RAM to 3200MT/s)

But the stress test i was doing on 3DMark just wouldnt clear. I changed drivers to a slightly older version, which helped it get further into the stress test but still it wouldnt clear before freezing exactly like i explained it here above. With the help of a friend i then used the nvidia app's built in performance sliders to give it 2% more voltage which made it finally clear.

I hoped everything would be fine but then some time later my pc freezes again, like i explained, while i was just idle reading something on a browser. So i wanted to do a more "real world" test where i would just play a random game and see if it would do the same freeze again with metrics on my second screen. So i loaded HWInfo with the GPU Volt and Watts graphs and Ghostwire Tokyo (it's the one i am playing atm from my back log and it's very optimised mind you). When i was in the main menu (so before even loading my save) i quickly went to refill my water bottle and when i came back the pc had frozen again in the same manner as the other times.

Thank you for reading my odyssey, now the question is WHAT DO I DO??

Is it a driver problem?
Is it a power problem?
Is it some other component's problem that the new gpu is causing somehow? Or even the other way round?
Is the GPU really the problem and therefore defective?

I am spiraling in desperation 😭😭😭😭

I would start with downloading hwinfo64 and checking your temps. Could you put old gpu back in and see what it does? I generally don’t ddu when I go from Nvidia gpu to Nvidia gpu whether that’s correct or not I haven’t had any issues.

edit: what is your psu?

temps are not an issue they never go over 70° (celsius). My psu is a Corsair CV650 Bronze

Interesting. Would you mind making a full parts list on pcpartpicker.com? 650 may be fine but I want to double check with confidence. It sounding like rma is your best route unless you have crazy specs
