I have a problem with a client

I explained it to him, but I don't think he understands. I'll call him to my office tomorrow to show him.
I already thought the font looked strange when I took it out of its original case.

Then make sure he understands.  I don't think its fair for you to go out of your own pocket to buy a PSU that fits in the case but I also understand the client/customer side of it as well.

This is also something you can learn from as well as in the future you make sure to check every detail before doing a job.

The question is also, did you only swap the components from the old case to the new case?
Will a standard ATX PSU fit with the current components if it uses propriatery HP connections?

A few days ago, a client came in and asked me to upgrade the components in a Cougar MX311 Mesh case. I performed a clean installation, but when I went to install the power supply, I realized it wouldn't fit.
The problem is that the power supply is a generic HP model, which I've attached in the image below, and the client doesn't want to replace it. What should I do now that I'm in this situation?

I struggle to follow.

Who bought the generic HP model PSU? You, the client or was it already installed in the old case and he wants it moved over to the Cougar case?

Me cuesta seguirlo.

The client has an old PC with all the components. He brought me the new case and his PC so I could transfer them. He bought the case at another store, and from what I can see, the power supply isn't a standard ATX. But he absolutely wants to use that power supply because, according to him, he doesn't have the money. 😞

Did you make absolutely sure that the HP PSU does not fit in the Cougar case?

If so, did you explain to him that the old PSU is not comaptible with the new case as its a propriatery HP model and he would have to buy a new compatible ATX PSU?

I explained it to him, but I don't think he understands. I'll call him to my office tomorrow to show him.

It's strange, because components like the motherboard and others are mounted in the case just like any other component. The problem is only with the power supply, so tomorrow I'll show him the issue and ask what he want to do. I already installed a Sentey ATX power supply I had lying around, and it worked perfectly.

Strange! But a situation that can be sorted out 🙂

Great that everything worked with a standard ATX PSU, this is also something you can show the customer.

Thank you so much for helping me think things through a bit, as I wasn't sure if the problem was me because I slept very little, or if it was actually the component.

With it being an HP proprietary PSU the cables are likely proprietary as well and a standard ATX PSU will likely not work anyways.

Ok then just say can't be done. Its different psu or no build transfer at all. If declined just bill your hours spent and call it a day.

The client asked you to do X, you started doing X, ran into issue Y, client does not want you to fix issue Y caused by nobodies fault really, you cannot complete task X due to Y so you end task X and charge for the hours of time it cost you to stop doing task X due to the customer not wanting to fix Y.

If you do the for free out of your own pocket stuff you WILL be taken advantage off, lose money and eventually get some VERY hard and usually costly life lessons. See it as a learning experience and also a case of using the "I shall look into this if it is possible and proceed with the work, any work I do will be charged regardless of result" sentence.

(I don't know how to say it in the plural)

Glad to hear that it all got sorted in the end 🙂

This is just a part of doing business! From time to time you will encounter obstacles.

Happy New Year and best of luck going forwards.
