Yup not easy to get rid of them quickly, it takes time.. SO like can actualy leave my PC where it is? no need to move it out ? like the spray won't cause any harm?

I've got about 20 fruit flies left in my apartment because I had the nerve to buy a bag of apples as it reaches peak apple season. And after two days of having them in the counter, had about 100 fruit flies buzzing in the bag. I've been spraying the geraniol+oils bug spray (actually works surprisingly well) and was using the overhead light as a trap by coating it in spray. I've also got a small AIO computer on top of the fridge for watching sports while I cook. After about a week of spraying every other day, I inadvertently selected out the trait for flying directly at light sources. Now it's a daily spray, and the computer still works great.

Take from that what you will.

question is, would u even do that with ur main system?

I mean, I've had my main system fed with cold (40F/4C) ambient air (both very dry and not so dry) during Folding at Home events, so if condensation was going to form, it likely would have.

As long as you're not spraying liquid into the computer, it's fine.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

As I explained I usually do cover my PC with plastic sheet with a bed sheet on top of it to make sure no spray gets to it.. U think this is enough? or still might be danger and gotta move my PC out?

The insecticide you're spraying can't penetrate through the plastic sheet. You don't even need to put the bedsheet over top of the plastic.

It's just cuz the plastic sheet doesn't cover the bottom part of the case as it's not tall enough so rhat's why I put a cotton sheet on it, ya know.. So basically u mean this is more than enough and the spray or what's left of it can't get inside and no need to move my pc outta this room

I just realized something and I’m worried I might have done something really bad without noticing.
What I used to do is: after I finish gaming and turn off my PC, I immediately cover it with a plastic cover, then put a bed sheet over it to make sure no pesticide spray reaches it when I spray the room.

ChatGPT told me that this is wrong because the PC stays very hot after use, and when you cover it right away, there’s no ventilation to let the heat escape.

ChatGPT is full of crap.

Here's the thing, If you turned the PC OFF, and then immediately sealed it, the worst that can happen is the plastic will weep/melt into cooling holes, this generally won't happen unless the ambient temperature is >170C

https://www.plastikcity.co.uk/useful-stuff/material-melt-mould-temperatures

There is a potential for damaging the CPU or GPU if you were to say, turn it off from full tilt and doing this, but this is generally impossible to achieve. It's something that can potentially happen if the PSU is not powerful enough.

At any rate the PC goes from hot to warm in about 2 minutes without active cooling. Usually laptops and some desktops with power management setup correctly, will spin the fans for about a minute before turning the system full off.

As for spraying pesticides. I would be more concerned of your own health, as pesticides will coat surfaces like the keyboard, mouse, monitor, headphones, etc.

The only thing you need to make sure is that the system is OFF when you cover it. Sleeping is not the same as OFF. Use the mechanical power switch on the PSU to make sure it's off. If you accidently turn it off while it's sleeping, it will complain, but it won't damage anything.

First of all, thank you so much for your help I was honestly really worried, and you truly reassured me.
There are just a few points I don’t fully understand, so let me explain exactly what I’ve been doing before covering my PC.

I’m currently following a bed bug treatment protocol, so I have to spray every day. Last week, I sprayed daily for seven days, and thankfully I managed to reduce the spread of the bugs.

Here are the exact steps I follow:
First, I completely turn off the PC but unfortunately, I don’t wait I cover it immediately with a plastic bag. On top of the plastic bag, I place a cotton sheet for extra protection, and also because the plastic bag isn’t long enough to cover the bottom part of the case.

Then, I put on a mask and spray the entire room, except for the PC area. However, some spray mist still flies around and probably lands on the cotton sheet.

After that, I leave the room for about 6–7 hours, and then I come back, remove the sheet and everything, turn on the PC, and start my day  since part of my work requires the computer, not to mention gaming.

Do you think these steps are safe and appropriate, or should I move the PC outside the room when I spray?

The PC will be fine, but if you're dealing with bedbugs, there is a possibility of the bugs getting INTO the PC. Usually a insecticide spray is intended to coat the surface of everything that the bugs can crawl into (anything with a soft surface like carpets, chairs, bedding, etc.)

Like the risk really comes from igniting the spray if the PC is left on, since nearly all aerosol sprays use propane as a propellant. Still, this is something that could only happen in like a "final destination" level of coincidences. Since there are no sparks in a PC normally, however turning the PC on or off DOES sometimes result in a spark jumping from the power supply switch. Hence why it should be fine if it's mechanically OFF, and not sleeping.

It's fine to ask the question though. If it's a bedroom you shouldn't be sleeping in it until like, I think four days after the treatment is done, and you'd still want to hot-wash all the bedding first. The PC will be fine but you want to reduce the amount of unnecessary air pollution the PC is exposed to because it will degrade the performance of the fans in the same way that smoking does. So a few days is not going to ruin it.

Haha what? After 10 years maybe you'll loose a fraction of a %. Mentioning this extremely unlikely event is just going to cause more anxiety.

When you service a PC that's been "smoked" once, it's not really noticeable, but when you repair a computer that the user smokes cigars/cigarettes/pot/etc frequently/daily you smell it before you even open the desktop, and no sane repair person would want to service it because it makes the heatsink sticky and it causes the dust to cement itself.

Pet hair and human hair also gum up fans. But there's not much you can do about this other than keep the computer out of your bedroom, and keep pets out of the room with the computer which most people aren't going to do.
