Resolution or Refresh?

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Well that's not something I considered, especially with newer games. Well I guess 4k is out of the question for me, but Glenwing mentioned 2560x1440, so I guess that would be the higher res I shall be considering.

One question, are there any nice monitors out there capable of 1440p with 120hz, or a higher than 60hz native?

This one:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/138768-asus-rog-swift-1440p-120hz-monitor-release-date/

Hi. I'm soon planning on buying a monitor, and I have my eyes set on the BenQ XL2720z 27" Monitor. mainly because I wanted to try out a better refresh experience to experience some of the extra FPS I see ingames.

But, 4k gaming. Yeah, not much to say there, just, 4k gaming. Quite expensive though, dunno, but I might save and fork out for one, if it's worth it. The AOC U2868PQU 28" seems to be a nice price but I don't know on the colour quality.

I have a 280x atm, but planning on crossfire before I get a monitor. I currently use a lcd tv 32 inch, around 6ms 1080p 60hz. A part from the 32inch, which is nice, I feel I am missing out in some immersion experience with just 1080 60hz.

I would like your feedback if you don't mind on your thoughts of what is better for you and why you prefer either refresh or resolution. If you have a 27 inch monitor with a higher res, what does it look like to you between 1080 and higher? Or if you have a higher refresh, how does 60hz differ in your experience from 120/144hz, does it look like a smoother gameplay experience to you?

Thanks.

A good 27" 2560x1440 may be a good option actually, with 4K things get pretty tiny on the desktop.  2560x1440 still gets you a lot of resolution and good pixel density, and size on the desktop is much more comfortable.  And it'll be cheaper, and you'll get higher framerates than with 4K.

You will not be able to game at 4k with crossifre 280x

Even 4 280x are not enough.

You need at least two 290x or 780ti, preferably 3

And titans will work better then the 780tis because of the extra vram.

Well I couldn't afford to go higher resolution or higher frame rates, rocking it with my 660ti most games run at 1080p 60FPS, high/ultra settings, with the exception of my skyrim which runs at 30FPS ENB crushing my GPU.

Actually. Dunno if I'd truly consider this, but I could buy a 4k monitor for future proof, and use a lower res until graphics card become easily available and affordable that are capable of handling 4k. Would I be insane?

That's what I want, what is the prices expected to be at, roughly? My price range would be £400-£500, well that's what I wish to spend.

It is rumoured at $800, more or less in your price range :)
