I am having a hard time understanding why patching files is taking 10x as long as the download. I never had this problem until Borderlands 4, and if there is a small update, it still takes 10x to patch the files. What is causing this and what can I do to help speed this up?

Patching is pretty much all disk work, less network. Steam has to read a ton of tiny files, decompress data, rewrite archives, and other things. thatll hammer a drive especially if its a hard drive, and even an almost full ssd will slow things down. any antivirus might also rescan the files steam touches though im not so sure about that.

what drive is the game on? how much free space?

Basically a long standing Steam "bug"... because if you try another time it works super fast...

(technically it's something with how steam installs "chunks" or similar I'll still call it a bug ...)

I don't think so because you give steam permission to "make changes to this computer" upon install, so anything goes!  👀

It's not legal doing this... 😉
