I'm having a persistent issue with my PC freezing exclusively while playing games. Everything freezes but stuff seems to happen in the background for a while (can talk on discord for a minute) and for and eventually everything goes black and I have to force shut down. Event viewer shows nothing it was fixed after a complete wipe but only stayed that way for a month If I let it turn itself of/ wait a long while the pc acts like all drivers stopped working and Adrenalin shows "incompatible version" warning

Reinstalled Windows 11 cleanly which worked for a while

Ran FurMark stress test for over an hour and a benchmark test — no crash no issues

Ran DISM & SFC — no integrity violations

Ran several benchmark tests without anything showing as wrong

I performed several DDU's and prevented windows from installing its own weird display drivers over my own

TLDR: Complete screen freeze, Nothing seems to have solved it apart from a complete wipe and that was only temporary and I have no indication that there are issues with heat or PSU failing

probably there's some issues with the recent windows 24h2 update, you're not the only one that have issues, keep in mind that microsoft releases cumulative updates every second tuesday of every month, you might want to try to rollback one update and check if it works without the latest version

it all depends on which version has been installed with your clean install, if it's an ealier version of windows like a 23h2 or an early 24h2 the issue might be related to some updates along the way and this is why it might have worked for a while after the clean install

Currently on 24h2 which itself seems to be fucked looking at recent news but should I then rollback to 23h2?

i have a pure hate for windows 11 24h2 because it's really the worst version of windows ever made. if you have an ISO of windows 11 23h2 you should try a clean install of the 23h2 and check if the issue persists, windows 11 24h2 is pure garbage

Sadly I don't, I wasn't aware that restore points had an expiration date on them so I was relying on that. And the only thing I've found that could possible do that can roll back or something similare is this but it looks like a complete clean install then and I have no idea if its a good idea.

do you have a spare HDD/SSD? you can clean install windows 11 there and block all windows updates and see if your PC works fine on that SSD, in case it works fine without updates you can make a restore point or find a way to make a full backup/snapshot of your system and then use that SSD for some time with all your apps and software copied from your "faulty" windows 11, if everything works find then you can wipe your old SSD and reinstall a clean install there and keep the spare one as "backup" just keep in mind to backup your data on your spare SSD just in case of failure, this can be an idea that might work without completely clean install and risk to lose data.

if you need a windows 11 23h2 iso OFFICIAL i have one, i just need to find a way to give you the link, i used that iso to make VMs at my job and it's dowloaded directly from microsoft

it's more complicated to read it then doing it hahaha in a nutshell:

1. burn the iso into the USB stick with rufus
2. shutdown and unplug your "faulty" disk
3. plug your spare disk
4. power on > boot into usb

5. install windows in the new disk

6. shutdown everything

7. plug your old disk in

8. at startup boot into boot menu (usually spamming f12, check your mobo manual)

9. select your new disk (usually there's the manufacturer's name on the entry)

10. you'll see your old disk as "D:" there you can access all your user data from D:\users\USERNAME\
11. COPY AND NOT MOVE ANYTHING from the old to the new disk

12 enjoy your test system.

then when stuff seem to work you can consider the full commit on wiping the "faulty" windows install and clean install the working version of windows to have a new working system, it looks awfully complicated but it's just a matter of 1 hour work. just double (even better triple) check that you copied everything from your "faulty" windows install before wiping it.

this is a procedure i almost always do when a windows system has some weird behaviour, sometimes a wipe like this is the fastest way to have a working computer other then troubleshooting for a whole day without finding a solution (i hate windows with all my heart)

You say that it isn't complicated but my brain totally freaks out looking at that 😞 at this point isn't it easier to just wipe and install new windows with a USB that has the correct ISO

dont do all that… just use a usb stick and install windows 10.

you can wipe everything and clean install as you please, it will lead to a result where you lose all your data and you might even not fix your issue however.

you can even skip 99% of the procedure i've described and simply test if a previous version of windows works fine on a spare disk and then decide what to do, it's all up to you and how much you care about the data you have in your not fully working windows 11 install. (remember to unplug your main disk before you plug in the spare one just to be sure you don't wipe your data on the wrong disk)

and please don't install any windows 10 version which is not a commercial one, enterprise versions are stripped down version of windows which could lead in stuff not working correctly

you can wipe everything and clean install as you please, it will lead to a result where you lose all your data and you might even not fix your issue however.

you can even skip 99% of the procedure i've described and simply test if a previous version of windows works fine on a spare disk and then decide what to do, it's all up to you and how much you care about the data you have in your not fully working windows 11 install. (remember to unplug your main disk before you plug in the spare one just to be sure you don't wipe your data on the wrong disk)

and please don't install any windows 10 version which is not a commercial one, enterprise versions are stripped down version of windows which could lead in stuff not working correctly

I've been made aware of a possible cause of the issues and testing it out for about a week before going down this road. Don't want to say it's fixed but I forgot to install the drivers for my main monitor and I then overclocked it to 170 which is the way to go per the instructions. And so far so good, haven't had any crashes but can't say for sure yet.
