Hey!

I want to upgrade my GPU as it slowly starts to show its age. Especially with big title coming up like GTA 6 (just an example, mainly focused on current performance and VR) I want to make my build future-proof to avoid having to upgrade in 2 or 3 years again. I am also planning to start some VR gaming.

I did some research and saw that the 5070 Ti would be a great choice. Currently, I have the Ryzen 5 3600 as my CPU. It will bottleneck sure, but my question is, how bad is it really?

I am planning to upgrade my CPU later on when the budgets allows again. I don’t mind losing a couple frames until I upgrade my CPU in a couple of months.

People also were suggesting to get a 5070 and the CPU at one, but I really want the performance to be good and future-proof, which makes me think that big but more steps are better.

Am I right?

What monitor you got no point pushing million fps is ya limited to 1080p and 100hz............. Trust me on this lol

I don’t know the exact model right now and can’t look it up as I’m currently not at home but it’s 165hz and capable of running 1440p.

Bottlenecking in this case just means your CPU won't be able to keep up with the GPU and as a result limit the performance to a certain level since the CPU can't keep up. It's not exactly that big of a problem, it just means you'll be missing on frames, and you might be able to compensate by cranking the graphics settings or/and resolution to put a greater stress on the GPU. Either way GTA 6 is coming to consoles only first and like RDR2 and GTA 5 chances are the PC port will come out a year later bare minimum, so you're looking at a 2027 release date for the game on PC so there's no point on rushing.

If your current setup meets your needs and you don't feel like it's holding you back, or that you can't enjoy all the games you want to play right now then there's no point in spending the money now, you can delay, save some more money so you can get a new CPU+motherboard+memory and GPU all at once, potentially saving some money as well as a new generation of Intel and AMD cpus come out making the older ones cheaper, and maybe even on the GPU buying new or used.

GTA 6 wont come out for like 2 years on PC so we cant possbily give a good answer and future proofing is a buzz word you dont need to pay any mind to

We also cant say an exact number for the bottleneck cause some games will be very limited due to being heavy on the CPU and others being nearly not all affected cause they really heavily on the GPU

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

Am I right?

Get a 5700X3D and a 5070 Ti.

You can of course buy the 5070 Ti now and get the 5700X3D whenever its on sale, maybe upcoming black Friday.

At 1440p there will be less CPU bottleneck but the 3600 is going to show some age, especially in CPU heavy games.

But it won't be a terrible experience, will still be good 🙂

A friend of mine paired a 4070 Ti Super with a Ryzen 1700x and she was happy.

"Future-proof" is a myth.

Nobody knows what the system requirements for GTA6 will be and it's probably pointless to try to build with that game in mind now.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I was using that just as an example. I am mainly focused on current performance and VR gaming. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you! I’ll most likely do exactly that. Buy the 5070 Ti now and use it with my current CPU until I can afford the 5700X3D again.

With that GPU at 1440p you can likely set quality to max and still get great frame rates. Enjoy!
