I have a Ryzen 9 9950x3d. Cooler is a Thermalright Peerless Assassin twin tower air cooler with 2 fans. Thermal paste is Thermal Grizzly Duronaut. Idle temp is 42-43C Cinebench R23 gets max temp to 83C. This seems pretty good to me. I think the throttle temp for my CPU is 95C. I use this for gaming and running local LLM's. Should I consider an AIO? Edited for typo!

Since you are not hitting the limit of 95c, you will see absolutely no performance improvement by going with an AIO.

No, if you were unhappy with 100% load performance (like Cinebench) I'd personally look at changing the config rather than a new cooler, but your call. Gaming is fine.

I don't think I will be at max temp often. So most of the time it will be less. Can you clarify what you meant be changing the config?

the peerless assassin is one of the best tower coolers iirc, and those temps are within range, i don't think an AIO will do that much better

I ran my 7950X3D with a TR PA120, it worked fine

But a 360 AIO (Arctic LF3) makes a 5C difference, your choice

Also upgrading the "just decent" TR fans with better ones can help temps and noise level _ but a couple Noctuas cost near as much as a 360 AIO...

Unless it offered substantial performance increase

Its a pretty decent boost.

This is stock with EXPO, under load CPU was at ~4700MHz average effective.

And then again with my tuned profile.

Average effective was ~5400MHz

Those are rookie power numbers though.
