Hi all.

I have a PC with Windows 10, fully updated, CPU 9900K, GPU RTX4070 TI SUPER on a GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS MASTER motherboard. The machine has been working fine up until yesterday. Suddenly, when playing Fortnite, the mouse started to stutter, and actually making the game unplayable.

My first instinct was to end the game, reset the PC, and hope everything went back to normal. It didn't.

Second I uninstalled the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" via device manager, then I reset the machine, but still problem persist.

I updated the GPU driver to the latest, problem remains.

Checked settings for Keyboard and mouse, going through it all, problem persists.

Unplugged and plugged back in, no change.

Tried three different mice (all wired) in different USB plugs. All mice, no matter how many is installed at the same time, shows the same stuttering.

--- I thus assume, that it is not the three different mice, that has a problem (not a mouse hardware related problem).

--- Since I tried all USB plugs on the back of the motherboard, I also assume, that it is not a USB plug hardware problem.

Tried disabling many different programs from startup (via taskmanager).

Eliminated as many programs running in the background as possible, then restart, no change.

Also tried to update mouse drivers using device manager, but windows says all drivers are up-to-date.

The stuttering occurs even in Windows on the desktop without any games running, and even after a completely fresh restart or power on from cold.

The mouse curser when moving it around in circles seems to freeze for a split second, then jumps or moves again, when circling.

No installation of any programs or uninstalling of any programs or manual updating of anything was done prior to the problem occuring.

Changes to the computer settings in generel was not done prior to the problem occuring.

Windows update does happen by itself, and so does game-update, but other than that, I cannot think of anything that can have changed prior to the stuttering occuring.

Even windows and especially Fortnite does not update while in the middle of a game, and update settings for Windows has been set to the maximum delay.

So it is especially weird, that the problem suddenly started in the middle of a game.

In other words, the PC has been working fine, and no changes has been done, but problem just suddenly occured for the first time in the middle of a game of Fortnite yesterday.

I am now at a loss for things to try, and I would very much appreciate any new suggestions.

Thank you very much.

Test if the issue is only in fortnite. If it is, then its Fortnite. Do you have this junk enabled? If yes, delete and disable in BIOS:

The reason I ask is because, when I had Z390, but from asus, then Asus Armoury crate (the equivalent to gigabyte app center) made my PC stutter and run poorly in general.

@DoctorNick

Thank you for your time.

I do not have anything from the video installed and the bios is not setup as in the video.

As described in my first post, the problem started in the middle of a game of Fortnite, but even after restarting, trying a lot of things, the problem persisted. Thus I believe it cannot be Fortnite, or at least not the cause of it. I guess it is just a coinsidence, that it started there.

I am still at a loss for a solution.

Have you checked temps? Download Hwinfo64 and run in sensors only mode while playing. You can check temps after.

@DoctorNick

Certainly. Everything I could think of has been checked, checked again and one more time. Like I mentioned in my original post, nothing was changed prior to the problem suddenly showing up when gaming on Fortnite. After the problem occured, it stayed there, even when Fortnite was closed down, after many resets, updating Windows and so on. The problem is completely impossible for me to understand, as I cannot figure out, why the problem suddenly occured.

Temperatures are not worse or even changed in any way, prior to the problem occuring.

I even checked the hardware, making sure that everything is properly seated.
