Hello!

This is my first post on this website so please let me know if I am posting in the wrong thread or anything of the sort!

Anyway! I am a Junior in High school and it's that time of the HS career where they keep asking "What are you going to do in College and with your life". To be more specific I am 16 and my sophomore year just ended. I built my first rig in mid-late January of 2014 and before that I have been learning about PC hardware/software for over a year. I really love hardware and to me I am pretty good at the advance level. I really love PC's and I can only thing of 1 thing I want in a career, something to do with PC's! I used to want to do some type of software, gaming and such like Computer engineering or computer science. I can think that if I had a job in PC hardware I would be so happy. I really would not know the route though... my brother who is a senior in a mechanical engineering course says I can put 'custom building a pc' on a resume but I do not see where that would get me.

ANYWAY TO THE BOTTOM LINE, I'd like to know what degrees or steps I can take to get myself a job in the PC, I love them and want to keep learning about all there is to know. Any questions or comments are really appreciated, have a nice day!

Well of course, I am meaning more towards maybe building and IT, programming, I am pretty bad at!

For stuff like that, you may want to consider not going to collage. Everyone pressures everyone to go to collage, but it is not always best for that career/person. And it saves alot of moeny not going.

Hey, I am in the act say situation, about to be a junior in HS and built my PC in january. I am probably going into engineering and just having my PC stuff as a hobby. I always over saturate my self with the things I like, and end up hating them, but this is just me. Good luck to you.

Well I'd shy away from being a highschool IT guy and more towards someone at NCIX, Tiger Direct, Newegg, or I really don't know specific job titles for just 'building' PC's. Like i don't wanna be the repairman going door to door, if you get what I mean at all.

I would apply for internships at computer businesses and programs. That's a definite good way to get started, especially since summer just began.

I am still a minor so I am doubting any legit business is doing an internship or summer job for a minor.

For me, my grades aren't so good, PC hardware is the real only thing that I fully dedicate myself towards so...

Electrical engineering. I learned programming (high and low level), basics of telecommunications and what each part of a 'core' in a CPU works.

Also, don't bother with a degree in IT. Just go get industry experience if you want to do IT stuff.
