Wierd USB read/write speed!

Go to solution Solved by OddOod,

Well, it COULD be defective, but my guess is that it's just a monumentally bad product line.

Hey guys , I just got an usb and i got problems with it . Its an Hoco. UD9 usb drive 128gb rated with usb 2.0.The speed from the manufacture is: Read: 15-25MB/s Write: 6 - 10MB/s . But when i tried it with a transferred test (I'm using JUST a 30MB video) its transferred under 1 MB/S I thought it was a fake drive but after doing the check it wasnt. I'm using Dell Inspiron 5593 with Windows 10 22H2 19045.6043 I got no idea what's wrong with it. Please help ASAP,Ill be very grateful for it
Link for the drive info: https://hoco.vn/usb-hoco-ud9-128gb.htm (its on vietnamese btw so you might need some translate,I cant find the real hoco. website but i found this trusted official website so i think that'll work) (also I'm buying this drive old so it is out of warranty )

Try a much more bigger file.

Anyway, don't expect to reach the advertised speed.

Those speed basically tested on a perfect condition and situation.

And they probably switched the Read and Write speed on their spec page, either by mistake or not.

No way that thing can actually write faster than read.

Why you bother buying 128GB USB2.0 thumbdrive in 2025, i don't know.

I sure hope it's at least cheap.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

I thought there was something wrong, never heard of a thumbdrive with higher write speeds than read speeds, you mixed them up 😀 https://hocotech.com/product/mobile-accessories/flash-disks/usb-flash-drive-ud9-insightful-2-0/

Welcome to the forums!
What CPU is in there?
Also, I hadn't heard of large capacity USB drives that only run at USB2 speeds.
Have you tried a different USB port? And is this a laptop or desktop?

5950X/4090FE primary rig  |  1920X/1070Ti Unraid for dockers  |  200TB TrueNAS w/ 1:1 backup
