Hey guys,

I am currently upgrading my whole pc, but I can only save about 60 dollar per month. So I'm sitting here with my brand new AMD 280X GPU, and a +/- 5 year old Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 2.99 G(GHZ?). So I (obviously) have a huge bottleneck. I play Skyrim on automatically 'high' settings, and BF3 on all settings high or ultra. However, if I could overclock this old CPU (with stockcooler) I could propably play everything a little bit higher untill I have saved enough money for a new mobo + CPU.

Is is possible to squeeze a little bit more performance out of this CPU or should I just not bother with OC'ing? Is it really bad that I have a stockcooler?

Sorry if I said something stupid, I'm still a newbie to this :P

It wouldn't make a big enough difference for it to be worth the trouble tbh.

I wouldn't suggest overclocking on a stock cooler and even if you where able to get a little more speed from your CPU it probably wouldn't have a huge difference.  I wouldn't add anymore stress too it, especially if at this time you can't afford to purchase a new mobo & CPU.

it is Ghz :)

Overclocking on a stock cooler isn't really good, unless you're like me and you get one for a CPU with nearly twice the TDP.
