Hi everyone!  I soon plan on building a computer (My first build.  Yay!).  However, I am on the fence as to which version of Windows I will install.  I am split between 7 and 8.1.  What do you recommend?

If it helps, here is my planned build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NoctHorn/saved/xn66Mp

Thanks in advance! :)

I use windows 7 on my desktop and I have no plan to upgrade it. My laptop came with windows 8, I couldn't stand it at first, but once you install 'start is back' it becomes pretty usable. I still prefer windows 7 overall.

I have heard that 8.1 is good but some people claim there are compatibility issues with some games.

I have used Windows 8.1 for over 6 months. If you install a free program to make it more like Windows 7 in terms of UI, like Classic Start, then it is fine. I hate metro personally. With a fiery passion.

Start is Back has less features from what the trial gave me, and the full version costs $$ (like $3 though so not bad). There are others too though.

Thanks, everyone!  I was originally planning on windows 8.1.  I was unsure because when I asked the question on Teksyndicate forums, it started an all out war because some people were claiming compatibility issues.

people will differ honestly go with what you are comfortable with. I personally do windows 7 because I have custom mods on it to make it look all snazzy and my startup is totally non-stock, I don't need anything windows 8.1 "gives" and I don't feel like working on a new system with a shitty starting career.

Also, Older games have compatibility issues with 8 however they can be fixed quite easily I guess if you are even remotely computer literate. I mean it was the same on 7 back in the day.

If you don't have any os right now, then Windows 8.1. However, if you already have windows 7 I don't think that it's work the money to upgrade.

In g2a.com they are selling windows 8.1 pro for $25+, it sometimes fluctuates. The website mainly sells games too.
