Going from a coloured coolant to white

if you have a fitting higher than the CPU, you'll need to crack it open to "burp"

the air pocket to allow the coolant to flow.

I have the xspc photon 170m with a d5 attached to the bottom, im cleaning out my loop with distilled water etc etc. i filled the res and switched the pump on, got down to about half way where the cpu block and  tubing in and out of the block are full but it has stopped at the gpu ( water level is just past the gpu block) ive tried different speeds and the pump is definately working and ive tried refilling the res but to no outcome, any ideas?

TL;DR

 

I had a purple system and want to go white, ran 2 distilled water only loops and both have come clean. Should it be okay to go white now without the purple from the previous coolant making it go violet?

Something might be blocking most of the flow in that area.

It works fine with mayhem coolants, just seems to be distilled water (had the same issue last time i filled the loop)

I would guess not enough head pressure, adding pressure I'm guessing coming from your res isn't enough. Try fulling it while your pump is on.

Also, is there any special liquid or mix or anything used for cleaning loops? Going from purple to white and dont want the purple to turn the white into a violet color

boo-qoo flushing. some say the primochill sys-prep works. i flush the snot out of

the metal parts with vinegar and tap water.and once clear, flush with tap water

and then distilled water. test water for pH and maybe use the sys-prep.

What mix of vinegar and water? what ive read says 1 pt vinegar to 10 parts water others say pure vinegar :wacko:

never measured. pretty stout on first flush(s). kinda depends on the

dye/coolant color. UV worse than blacks, reds, blues (purples) are tough.

 

my first used rad was a red dye user and took 1/2 gallon of cheap cleaning

vinegar, heated say 1-quart vinegar to 2-quart water to under boil and poured

solution into rad, capped it off and shook the be-jeeze (use oven mitts) pour

out and repeat until clear. then adapted a sink faucet to a tube and fitting,

attached to rad and flushed for 30min. lastly, 2-gallon of distilled flushed

through and still have the rad in a clear distilled loop with no tinting.

I started with red coolant, went to ice white and loved the white but within a few days had been stained pink so went with the purple dye i had and decided i wanted white still, so ive repurchased some white coolant again and just want to make sure it doesnt stain. is there any difference in white vinegar or cleaning vinegar etc? might go get some vinegar and run a few heated vinegar and water loops

Okay so i cleaned out the radiators with vinegar and warm water etc, then flushed with just plain distilled. now have a loop running with just distilled water in it which has been going for about an hour now and there isn't a hint of purple to be seen, should It be okay to make white now? or should i add a little bit of vinegar to the entire loop and let that run for a few hours?

if running clear, i'd at least test the pH of coolant in system. adjust to 7ish

as some coolants react to to acidic or alkali (mayhems).

Is there an easy way to test with household items? Dont really want to go buying a kit or anything like that

 

Ran the loop for about 14-15 hours and not a tint of purple to be seen. Flushed that loop and running another clean loop now

no real homebrew method, need pH strips (drugstore/pool supply). i'd say you

pretty much have a "clean" loop to proceed to white coolant.

Yeah this second loop going through is as clear as the bottle of distilled beside it so i think ill just go for it now

Okay so riddle me this. I run multiple loops through from warm water to water and vinegar to plain distilled water and every time was flushed clean without any purple tinting at all. I start assembling my system but before installing all the blocks I give them one last individual shake out to make sure there was no water left behind that could ruin any components. I take the reservior to the sink and begin tilting it upside down etc etc to find the sink covered in a deep purple liquid, washed it away not really thinking anything of it to then have it appear again whilst rinsing the res. I look at the base of the res and there is a ring of dark purple dye it appears (assuming it didnt mix in with the original coolant or it settled at the bottom over time). Don't really want to pull the reservior apart but I have no idea how to get to it :/ Any ideas?

looks like the dye did separated and concentrated on settling on low-lying areas.

so physical dissection would be an option, because the problem still exists where

the residue will shade your new white coolant.
