In one of the last YouTube shows, I heard a certain someone say that password managers sucked.

Windows Is Cooked For Gaming - WAN Show May 30, 2025

I want to say they have been a lifesaver for me.

I don't just store passwords, I keep registration codes and website information. I use category folders to separate everything.

I use a program called Password Agent. I've used that for a great many years, and it's by far the best that I've ever seen or used. It's so simple. I can use the App on my phone to read the data file as well - my passwords are always with me.

These kinds of programs are a critical tool. Authenticator apps that work with passwords, too. Is it a pain in the ass? Yes. Does it save heartache? Yes.

You can use the light version for free, or pay for it and use all the features.

You have to take that comment in context. Linus isn't saying password managers are a bad idea. He's complaining about how they create friction, because of all the steps it takes to unlock them, i.e. usability sucks, not the idea behind them.

Remember to either quote or @mention others, so they are notified of your reply

Yeah the point is that while password managers and complex passwords are great whenever you encounter an app that won't autofill or even worse like in the example let you paste the password so you have to manually type your long string of garbage with only ****s as a feedback it really sucks.
