It took closer to 3 1/2 to 4 hours just to get to desktop. Steamos came out for 3rd party handhelds, wan show (very fairly) hammered windows, and personal experience trying to game really drove it home for me.

Just install bazzite or something (I know old thread, but still current issue, those handhelds run extremely poorly on windows - because windows has no idea how to write a functioning OS, those times are definitely over - ironically they should just update win 8 as that's actually made for handhelds lol)

My laptop did something similar the other day. I randomly wouldn't boot into Windows and forced itself into Bitlocker recovery. My recovery key printout was in another location so with no really important data on it,  I called Microsoft's bluff, actually made a SteamOS installer and when I booted with it plugged in Windows magically started working again. Suspicious timing, but I was tired; so, I let it go for the time being. It is a holiday weekend now so, maybe the time is right.

I wouldn't trust Windows 8 on a hand held even if my life depended on it.

Why, what's bad about it?  I was on Vista (the GOAT) for 10 years so I missed out on the "greatness" of win 7 and 8 and straight went to 10 so I really don't know what I missed, if anything? Windows 10 was definitely a huge downgrade unfortunately. Will not downgrade further...
