How many watts i need for this PC?

JohnRiese

How do you know these things man?

Research from benchmarks and experience. The internet helps.

benchmarks is the best way to judge so much gear :) the downside about experience with specific gear is that it can vary, though not so much I guess

thats true but since it's 80+ rated which means if it's between 20-50% load, it's not that bad isn't it?

aiming for idle/light use at around the 50% mark would be best i guess? :P

Aiming for idle power draw at 50% isn't really doable. A system with a 780 Ti sli barely pulls over 100w at idle.

Efficiency is generally worse below the peak than above it though. It would be better to get a psu just as big as you need since the system will likely spend most of its time not at load.

I'm always getting PSU's that are too big for my present needs. For the rigs in my sig, I know all the PSU's used are simply overkill.....but, I've always believed that you can't have too much. :D  Will be swapping out the HX1050 in my 2nd rig with an Enermax Maxrevo 1500W PSU, and shifting the HX1050 to my 3rd rig. My 4th rig has a SilverStone OP1000......so, all my 4 rigs would have a 1kW PSU at the very least.

BTW, WM, since you seem to be in the know about such things, should I replace the Seasonic X-1250 with the Maxrevo 1500W instead?  I know the Maxrevo is beefier, but on a whole, is it better than the X-1250?

The x-1250 is better being more efficient, having a quieter fan longer warranty, and is just a bit overall better.

Well, OK then, I'll swap the HX1050 with the Maxrevo 1500W PSU and move that HX1050 to my 3rd rig.....the Seasonic SS-850AT will be my reserve PSU. I'll only consider moving the Maxrevo to my main rig should I get a 3rd card....I always err on the side of safety when it comes to power requirement.
