BOINC Central project status?

Is the 3rd project on the BOINC project list "BOINC Central" still active or what?

It doesn't seem to be, and it has no available WU's on the server status page.

Also, how come Inactive or discountinued projects aren't being removed from the project list. so people don't waste a lot of time trying to make something work that's not supposed to work anymore?

As you know, anyone can create a BOINC project. BOINC Central is for researchers who need the help of distributed computing but don't know how or have the time to setup a project of their own. The researchers can contact the BOINC admins and have their work added to this project. This is different from Science United which provides a application that lets anyone start crunching with minimal setup.

For your second question, many of the projects on the list are still online. They just don't always have WUs. I always advise people to visit the project's site before adding it to learn what the project will be using your computer and electricity for. All of the projects that have been discontinued make it quite clear on their site. With all this being said, some definitely need to be removed. Just remember that BOINC is a non-profit and mostly run by volunteers.
