Just thought that maybe we should have a section somewhere in this forum for those who've left us for good.

At the very least if they aren't a criminal or the sort.

You know, put their last profile pic there and their forum name, join date and the date they left us.

Maybe add a few words of what they usually do/give us if it's significant/often enough.

I imagine it to look like Staff Directory section.

And change the "Message" button with a react button as a way for people to pay respect or something, Heart, of Flower if possible.

Because online based it may be, but surely at least some did enrich our life / help us gets through the day / contribute to us or forum in a way, etc.

It can be just for those that are deceased, or both that and people we know quitted this forum because they need/forced to be away from this forum due to reasons that isn't criminal based.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

I am not sure a public forum needs a section like this.

We can all remember those who impacted us in our own way.

Imo, not something LTT needs to dedicate to. It's too ephemeral to decide who, why, how etc.

I miss the guy with the LN2 pfp... without him I'd never managed to OC my RAM, and he was generally nice / funny...

Reminds me of what GTPlanet did... They had a banned forum member list, with reasons why they got banned, how often, aliases, sometimes IP addresses (or just countries idr) ... It was like reading a thriller sometimes! Lol.

They don't have that anymore (I randomly checked years ago...)

Thing is something like that doesn't fly anymore nowadays (and probably for good reason)

I know you don't propose the same thing, but really it's the same thing... Did you not see lots of older inactive ("deleted") profiles say "guest" for example... It would be a privacy nightmare doing something like that (as nice it "may" would be otherwise...)

Also doesn't fit this forum style at all (friendly atmosphere and all...). It's no GTPlanet that's for sure! 😅 (Nice forum but it got heated sometimes lol).

Tldr: I'm just pretty sure this won't (can't) fly here (it's objectively a "bad idea", i.e. GDPR exists...)

And especially WHY lol...

(kind of why I mentioned that other forum and their kinda "member list"... It definitely made sense, at the time, but was certainly slightly toxic and just a sign of how the Internet was back then).

Since some who have left have elected to do so by either cleansing their account (shows as guest) or completely removing their content, it would go against their wishes to bring their existence back.

While this might seem like a good way to remember people, some people do not want to (or legally cannot) be remembered. This community is focused around LTT and all things technology. We don't air dirty laundry here (in the case of people who get banned) nor is a "user account graveyard" core to the community. Plus, it would be yet another thing to remember to update, on top of everything else.
