AMD X4 - i3-4150

Go to solution Solved by D3MON,

But will the fps increase be worth it? The i3 and 750 ti rig costs - 600 $, the athlon and R9 270 - 670 $. :$

11.6% more expensive, 7850/r9-265 outperforms 750ti by about 20% and thats before we count in overclocking, so yeah. (valid point by the way, didnt think about cost)

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7764/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-and-gtx-750-review-maxwell/14

thats from a 750ti review by the way so unbiased.

Hey guys,

Wich build is better? I will buy a prebuilt pc ( don't mention it), and i came across these - 1. AMD Athlon X4 740 - R9 270 2GB GDDR5, or 2. Intel i3-4150 - GTX 750 TI 2GB DDR5, the first pc costs more.

So is the Athlon good for gaming? The R9 270 definetely kicks 750 ti ass, but the athlon... will it strugle to do gaming? Battlefield 4 - I will play it on 1080P, ultra. What fps i would get with those builds? On the 2 i looked in YT and i would get like AVG - 35 fps on ultra but what with the 2 build? Afcourse i will lover the settings to get like 50 fps but now - WICH BUILD IS BETTER FOR GAMING?

Yep that AMD setup will perform much better for gaming. When comparing just the processors the i3 would probably perform better in most games but i would assume the X4 740 would pull ahead in games that make use of the extra cores (Like BF4).

thats not at all true. just a i3 WITHOUT hyperthreading, its allready better as athlon. With hyperthreading it destroys it. You can compare haswell i3 to 6300.

not to mention noise created by amd stock fan and no upgrade path. at least you can buy a hyperthreaded haswell xeon if you want more ooophm in future.

if you dont belive me i can put some benches later. just for approximate, one intel core is similar to one intel MODULE. Module has 2 integers, or "cores" but only 1 fpu and shared stuff like cache. Athlon have less cache than even 4300. Its a crap processor, and i allways recommend 6300 over it. Almost allways, only with extremelly small budgets.

But would amd with r7 290 still give more fps? whats your opinion?

I would go for the i3, Yeah people start crying I had an i3 myself and in a good amount of games it destroys the amd.

Invalid... but the r7 290 destroys 750 ti . And is i3's HT helping? the amd x4 has 4 real cores compared to i3's dual core.

Yes, more fps in games that work on 4 cores and are not cpu bound, that is true.

In cpu bound games, it would bottleneck. Last thing in games you want are stutters and frame drops. And you also have no upgrade path.

You can't even begin to compare the two when there is plenty of game benchmarks out there that show the i3 performing way ahead of the Athlons league...

vs 6300 but more importantly vs 8350..

It's IPC and therefore Single Core performance MAKES up so much for it only being a DUAL CORE. It is blazingly fast, just don't expect to stream with it, that's one of Few downfalls it has

it has 2 modules its different, you cant compare them with numbers and amd cores are weaker. intel has 2 cores with hyperthreading.

hyperthreading does help. for example in battlefield or crysis 3.

If you wanted to upgrade processor, you would have to change mobo too.

Cpu bound means game is cpu intensive, and if cpu is at 100% load it will bottleneck the video card to be working at lower load because processor cant keep up.

Games can be either GPU bound or CPU bound.

There is no upgrade path because of the Platform it is on. FM2/+ there is no 6 or 8 core FM2/+ CPU/APU, the performance you can get will be determinded on how much of an OC you can squeeze out of that CPU.

If you want a better CPU you will have to replace Motherboard aswell

If you went with a FX 4300 there would be a upgrade path because it's on the AM3+ platform allowing for 8350's, 9590's

faa is back -_-

have never heard anyone refer to i3 as "blazingly fast" before, thats a new one.

the amd setup will kick the i3 in the face, push it down the stairs and steal its lunch money, IPC was great back in the athlon 64 days but its no excuse to buy a dual core today, 100% more cores vs 30% better IPC, toughy.

(this is aside from the fact we're talking about 750ti vs r9-270 here, linus's benchmark videos will answer that question. B)

fm2+ replaced fm2 (which was a stopgap).

fm1 and 2 were created to support apus while amd worked on HSA, now its here on the am2+ platform.
