can i run current gen games with this system

Long story short: Your basically right just there's exceptions and your example is wrong because you listed an exception as an example. The majority of the R series is an update in case of 265, 290, 290x, and 295X2 it's new...

I stand corrected. That confuses me though because I looked up crossfiring a 7K series with an R9 270 but all the forums said it wasn't possible. I suppose I'll just have to try it on my next build (you know, when I actually have more than one PCIe slot... Urgh, I wish I hadn't gone with a microATX)
