From Nvidia to AMD issues :(

Go to solution Solved by WereCat,

Are you sure it's not your CPU or RAM being unstable? Have you tried some stability testing on those?

Hi, just got a 7800XT and having the PC crash after about 1 minute in game.

Reinstalled Windows 11, tried the PRO drivers and Undervolting but no luck, everything is freshly installed and up do date, don't really know what to do next!

A: what did you come from

B: full system specs

If it's the 450w psu in your signature, it's likely the reason. What happens when it crashes?

Hey, I've updated specs before posting but aren't showing up.

Ryzen 5600 - ROG Strix B550- Nvidia 4060ti - 32GB Ram - WD Black Gen 4 NVME - Corsair 850W

I first tried wiping Nvidia drivers and install AMD regular ones but was having issues so reinstalled W11 again and tried the PRO drivers and auto undervolting as it seems to pop up as a common fix but have the same issues as before, tried 3 games in total and they all reboot when i enter the game proper.

The system just suddenly reboots, i've tried the quick stress test from drivers and seems to draw the expected amount of power but re-checked the power cables and are seated properly.

Don't undervolt, it easily makes the GPU unstable

I've tried that as it seems like a common solution, i have same issues at stock anyways.

Ok

Are your temps ok ? there' s not much other reasons for a PC to shut off than overheating or power cut...

Good shout, i was monitoring but can't tell if any spikes before crashing so I ran 10 minutes of Furmark stress test at stock GPU.

GPU temp: 66c

GPU hotspot: 81c

VRAM temp:90c

And undervolted runs cooler and higher clocks, still stable. Again not really interested in undervolting if anything overclocking but seems like a common solution for this GPU.

That VRAM maybe high but doubt enough for a shutdown? Dunno never paid attention to that before, also to note GPU is oddly quiet, fans spin at 52%. CPU temps around 60c when gaming.

Hmm... If it can run furmark(a mostly 100% GPU workload) but is failing in games... The likely issure is most probably something other than your GPU...

hmm will try that, i have a modest CPU overclock that has been stable for 2 years

Never thought about the CPU since it sits at 20-30% in games but maybe the new GPU creates a different dynamic, I just set it to stock and will do some more testing and report back!

So far I've been trying MHWilds, Returnal, SM2 (and cyberpunk before the reinstall, funny enough was the only one running well), i might get a few minutes of gameplay out of them or even a benchmark but isn't really consistant.

Check on the manufacturer s site of that graphics card if there is a bios update for the gpu. I had similar problems with my rx 6900xt for a year and Bios flash solved everything.

Since you're mentioning MHWilds, that game made my PC suddenly crash during the benchmark. Turns out the game does something where my CPU is being unstable (I'm using Curve Optimizer) where otherwise I was stable on the CPU for 2y on any other task. But it's only in this particular game.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, I've disabled the CPU overclock and everything runs well now!

Didn't think that was the case as it ran for a couple of years with no issues...

Yeah, I mean... Basically the new GPU means this is an entirely new system - as far the CPU is concerned... You could probably redo the OC with slightly adjusted settings, but who knows...
