Good catch by Tan.
Yes, in theory it should work. It might not, but it should
On the other hand, you could consolidate a lot of that storage. 2TB SSD is 130$ and new 4TB hard drives are 70$ (or 10TB manufacturer refurb for 130)

I'm about to buy the MSI PRO H610M-E motherboard. Under the specifications, it says that SATA5 will not work if I install an NVMe SSD. However, the motherboard only has 4 SATA ports. What does this mean?.

i want to install

256 nvme

512gb ssd *2

1tb hdd *2

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-H610M-E/Specification

1x M.2
M.2_1 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 / SATA mode, supports 2280/2260/2242 devices
4x SATA 6G
* SATA5 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA SSD in the M2_1 slot.

Welcome to the forums!
You will not be able to install all 4 SATA drives and the NVME without an expansion card like this. (note: you need something that'll fit in an x1 gen 3 slot)

It is weird that they label the SATA ports as 5,6,7,and 8, but my guess is that it's just referring to the 5th-8th PCIe lane

ah thanks.. i thought sata ports start from 0-3. also Lexar NM620 to nvme slot all the sata ports should works right ?

By the wording in the manual it seems so, as it's written that "* SATA_5 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA SSD in M2_1 slot."

So NVMe might not affect the SATA_5. But hard to tell without testing it.

Thanks! I just realized the ports are numbered starting from 5—I thought they would start from 0 to 3. btw, the specs say that if I install an M.2 SATA SSD, SATA5 will be disabled. So if I install an NVMe SSD like the Lexar NM620, all SATA ports should work, right?

Thats my second option. I already have these SSDs and HDDs in my current PC, so I’m trying to use them instead. otherwise, I’d have to copy data to a new drive and go through the hassle. anyways thanks for the quick response 😄 I'll check if this works prob tomorrow and share an update.
