Everything has been fine up until recently. I've been noticing that images and even videos are showing with very weird colors and artifacting. I'm not sure when this started or why. I haven't changed anything with hardware or settings on anything except besides maybe updating my NVIDIA drivers (I'm on 566.36 now), though I've only done that 2 times within the last year. Nothing else has changed. I am using this monitor with updated drivers as well.

The only thing I can do to fix this issue is turn on HDR on Windows. But once I do that the colors are very washed out and it has this white 'film' look that I can't get to go away with any settings. It's just unusable and so I have to decide between color glitches or a complete washed out visual experience. I never had this issue before and I'm not sure if it's software based or it's my GPU (3070), monitor, etc.

Here is some media to show you what I'm talking about:

Here is a video of it adjusting as I move a window...

Help! Thanks.

HDR on Windows is a whole rabbit hole.

What monitor do you have?

Did you do the HDR Calibration via the Windows Store app?

Do you have RTX Video Enhancement features enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel?

What display connection are you using?

Do you have HDR enabled in WIndows and 'Auto HDR' enabled?

The adjustment when moving a window is likely the local dimming zone adjusting to the darker blue compared to white.

If you use HDR normally it could be a Windows update or bug with outdated GPU drivers, if you are only using it now for testing it could be a calibration or configuration issue.

Just a heads up. Driver version 566.36 is out of date. Download(if you don't have it) the Nvidia App from Nvidia's website then install the latest driver, if you have Geforce Experience already update it to the Nvidia app then install the latest graphics driver. If you've been installing them manually(update them more often) or getting them through Windows updates(don't). You don't want to slack on graphics driver updates.

If you are still getting artifacting and weird graphical issues, use DDU to uninstall the graphics drivers and programs, then reinstall them with the Nvidia app, if even after that you continue to have issues we'd need to do further troubleshooting.

This monitor with automatic dimming turned off.

I don't have Windows Store.

Where is this RTX Video Enhancement setting?

I'm using DisplayPort version whatever my monitor uses.

I don't use HDR in Windows and never have from what I remember. But turning it on is the only thing that fixes the issue but as I mentioned, makes everything washed out and no settings fix it and I can't use it

I never update Windows until I do Windows installs, so there has been no updates.

I just used DDU to install version 566.36 to update from 561.09. I will not be getting either of the updates after 566.36 with all of the issues everyone is reporting with not only the new 50 series, but also 30 and 40 series. The updates are causing more issues then they are fixing it seems.

The issue is this just started. Nothing was changed software (NVDA drivers) or hardware wise. What would make this just... start happening is the question?

HDR isn't one of those things you can just turn on and have it work, you have to calibrate HDR for it to not be washed out. Its about setting the proper contrast black/white and brightness. Windows will direct you to the HDR Calibration App from the Microsoft Store to set it up properly.

If your monitor doesn't have the contrast to run HDR, then I would just turn off HDR. Mine is a QLED, but I've tried to get HDR to work on like 4 different 'HDR400' displays and its always horrible, worse than just SDR.

The thing with updates is that a lot of them are required. I get that you haven't done any, that's not the point, the point is if it's a software issue Windows and or driver updates can fix it. If you're not willing to do them even just to try to fix the issue, that's on you.

You can install the new GPU driver and revert it if it causes more issues or doesn't fix it. But again, if you're not even willing to try what's recommended, I'm going to have to say you're on your own with trying to fix it.

Only other thing I can suggest besides software would be to test the GPU in another system and rule out the card as failing. As this is either going to be a software issue or failing hardware that's the next logical step if you're not willing to update anything.

Good luck.
