EXPO vs XMP

Hi all,

 

Looking for a bit of confirmation. I went to Memex and they told me not to get this ram (T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30) since it was XMP only and wouldn't post on my ROG STRIX B850-A / 9800x3D build. They instead recommended a kingston set with XMP and EXPO.

The more I look into this the more it looks like XMP should run fine on AMD builds as it's just a preset. Though I guess it's a preset for Intel so maybe that's where it might mess things up? I've seen mention of 7700 builds with this ram but not with 9800x3D specifically or if so with a different product number (FF3D532G6000HC30DC vs FF4D532G6000HC30DC). To complicate things even further there's mention of Alpha and Delta variants and the Amazon website seems to indicate that they do in fact have EXPO compatibility?

Will the TForce RAM work? I really prefer the aesthetics but don't want it to cause my build to not post, looking for some validation/clarity.

For the most part with DDR5, EXPO vs. XMP doesn't exactly matter. Technically XMP is Intel optimized and EXPO is AMD optimized, but in practice they're usually the same preset stored in different spots in the SPD. The only real exception is tRFC (one of the subtimings) as Intel and AMD calculate that timing differently, but after the first few initial BIOS releases on AM5 that was taken into account and practically there just isn't a difference between them. 

 

Get what you think looks better or is cheaper, it's not worth trying to go for EXPO just for the sake of it being EXPO.
