I was just browsing the forums when my windows glass colors went to the default, non transparent theme. The only program I had running was google chrome. No notifications or anything. I opened Task Manager and everything looked fine. It wasn't changing back so I clicked on shutdown. Right after I clicked that it went back to the transparent glass theme. After it restarted I noticed that my custom login screen background went back to default as well. The windows glass color went back to the default color too. What happened?

That happens when you run temporarily out of ram/pagefile. Windows thinks that Aero is reason for it so it changes the default theme. If this happens with really heavy software you get notification popup along with it. Some older/weird resolution software do same thing. That corrects after you click on taskbar.

I would agree with you, but he says he didn't get a pop-up balloon notification (assuming that the OP didn't miss it), and his custom login background has changed.

I've had it happen without notification also. And also so that it changes theme completely and doesn't change it back.

You have Windows 7, correct? It's the weekly WEI test. Windows tests your graphics card once a week to make sure your GPU is still capable of running Areo. For the first year of using W7 it used to scare the shit out of me. All I saw was my GPU usage would shoot up and my desktop settings would change for no reason. I thought my graphics card was defective, I would refer to these moments as "my card going full retard" and I would just rip out my power cord before realizing it would change back. Now it doesn't really phase me.

I have never heard of that before. Interesting.

I'm pretty sure Google Chrome wouldn't be using all 8gb of ram with only 3 tabs open.

It only takes one memory leaking flash site...

@GoodBytes, I was running 4gb in those days. Not happening anymore, thank god.
