I present to everyone, my iPod. It means a lot to me, and I'll explain why.

Chapter One - The beginning

A few weeks after my birthday, I bought an iPod Video from Elite Obsolete, and waited. About a week later it turned up in my mailbox. I was born right at the end of the so-called "media player wars", so I had never had one before. Unfortunately, it had an issue. It would show that it was charging, but the battery wouldn't actually charge. Long story short, I sent it back to EOE to repair.

Another few weeks later, it was back! And it actually worked this time! I loaded it up with my, at the time, tiny music collection, and I was instantly in love.

Chapter 2 - Aaand I broke it 😞

I had been watching DankPods mod these nuggets for a few years, so I had wanted to try and do a clear faceplate mod. It went well, until I heard something fall onto the floor. It was the battery connector. My heart instantly dropped. unfortunately it wasn't fixable, so I ended up ordering a new logic board. It eventually was fixed, and the transparent faceplate mod looked great.

Chapter 4 - Get iFlash'd, idiot

Christmas of 2023 I got an iFlash Solo. It works great, and I didn't have to be worried about a 15 year old hard drive anymore. Plus, 120GB is way more than just 30, even though I could probably never fill a whole 120 gigs with just music.

Chapter 5 - Here's some pictures

If you'd like to know more about the nugget, just ask! I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys have!

Edit: I forgot to mention, it also has a 2000 mAh battery, a far cry from the original 650 mAh

I have mine in a drawer in the cabinet here somewhere and I really loved it too.  But the bummer thing is, it won't charge at all.  Basically, since I'm an old guy now I really don't have a need for a phone so I think I will ditch the phone and get my iPod fixed.

Geez, I really appreciate your post.  I'm going to need to get the iPod fixed and ditch the expensive iPhone for good.

Take care and good luck.

Got an iPod nano somewhere, man I gotta dig that thing out. What a great piece of technology. It's a crying shame these things are technically obsolete because it's just. so. cool.

Currently Playing: Various PS5 Games (just beat Spider-Man)

Currently Listening To: Inferno - Boards of Canada

Hardware/Software: running old laptop with Ubuntu Server to run copyparty and a Terraria server, Steam Deck and high-ish end Windows 11 PC for gaming and content creation, Dell Inspiron laptop running Arch for school. Diehard iOS user, I lowkey want a mac too
PS5/PS2/PS1/Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One/Wii/N64/Switch/Powkiddy V90/

Depending on generation of Nano you have, it could be really dangerous to you, and you iPod's display if you plug it in. It could start with a small black spot on the display, and could end with a destroyed display, or even a fire. Some Nano models are mostly safe, hell, I have a couple myself. If you do end up finding it, post a picture here before trying to power it up. I've come to learn a bit too much about the fruit flavored music players💀

Depending on the model, it could be really easy to replace the battery yourself! If you find it, I'd be happy to help you find the parts you need!

Well I managed to dig it out, to my untrained eye it looks fine but I must say I would like to know if I have ownership of the Apple iBomb. I haven't turned it on in maybe a year or two, but it had no issues then other than maybe not much battery life. Not that I have much use for an MP3 player, although it has a bluetooth dongle so maybe this can be my next overly convoluted WAN show apparatus. Any suggestions for uses? I don't have any MP3s or much of an interest in going down that rabbit hole, although I am into making music digitally so maybe there's something there.

Ok, that is a 4th generation Na-No. The bad news is that that is one of the affected nuggets, and it would be easiest to replace the battery before it swells up thicc-er than the iPod itself. I can say that it won't be easy, but there are iFixit guides if you want to go that route.

Ah well, I guess I'll just hold on to it for a while until I feel like spending the money. Replacing the battery would be fun but unless I somehow get one for free I don't really want to spend money on it now. I suppose I could give it to someone who cares enough to bring it back to life, I hate seeing tech sit unused when it still works perfectly fine.

I mean, there's a 50/50 chance I would be able to fix it. Idk tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ayy here's mine

Spoiler

photo_2025-02-14_18-55-19.jpg.f7d6cfb5301eb25466a9246d52f3e19e.jpg

Got it a few years ago for the equivalent of like $6, then did a case mod, new battery, 64 gig card and all that stuff. Ran Rockbox for a while but decided to go for the regular OS for some nostalgia.

The iPod I got back in the days when they were still relevant was a 6th gen, listened the absolute hell out of it. Then gave it to a friend and they got mugged 🫠

Thinking about getting a 6th gen just for that good ol feeling. Funny, back in the days I was drooling over Rockbox site waiting for them to finally release a working build for Classic and it seemed like they'd never pull it. And here I am, 15 years later, and they finally fully support the 6th gen!  God dammit gonna look for one on OLX now.

Damn that's clean! I had a transparent faceplate for a few months until it got pretty scratched up. Mine has a Black backplate so I went back to the original black faceplate. The black on black looks sick.

How many songs you got? Im almost at a thousand.IMG_7081_Original.thumb.jpeg.143e577eddbafb0a9ebc86337ddd513e.jpeg

These are incredibly prone to scratches, that is true. I left lots of scratches on the back side of the screen cover simply by trying to clear some stray adhesive with a q-tip. The rest of the case looks fine only because I mostly use it indoors and store it in a soft pouch 😁

Song count is at around 2k currently, that's mostly my fav albums. I have a second modern player with a chungus 256 gig card to which I sync my entire library though, that's around 7k tracks. Been doing some hoarding.
