So I sold my Intel Mobo/Proceesor to change into amd/Ryzen Mobo and Processor. I'm wondering whether or not I could the Ram that i was using on my Intel setup which was a ddr4 8gb 2400mhz or do I need to buy a new one thats compatible with amd. How would I know if my ram is compatible with amd or Intel do I just ask the seller or what?

The former Mobo/Processor that I had was: H610M-H and a I3-12100F and I switched into a MSI B550M-A-PRO and a RYZEN 5 5600X.

For the most part, RAM is RAM and will work on either platform. There are some exceptions, but as long as the memory stick is unbuffered and was made within the last ~7 years it'll work on both AMD and Intel no problem. Just plug it into the new system and it should just work.

Ok thanks cause a friend of mine said that there is separate ram for Intel and AMD so I was worried whether or not I can reuse my ram

Be sure your ram isn't dual rank, by personal experience they will not work really good with AMD CPUs.

Basically not a thing. Do have to ask is this a 2x4gb kit? A single stick of ram CRIPPLES amd's performance.

It was a thing with early DDR5 where some kits had a PCB that did not function properly on AMD setups, but those kits quickly stopped being produced after Ryzen was released and so as long as the kit was made after that time (I.E. within the last 7 years) it will work, and if its from before then it will probably still work.

What kit specifically? Dual rank does work just fine on AMD setups, speaking from quite a bit of experience overclocking memory on AM4/AM5. I'm more inclined to blame the kit you were using than the fact it was dual rank.

exactly AMD loves their dual channel ram, a single stick WILL noticeably drop the performance.
Also make sure to install the dual ram correctly if your new Mobo has 4 channels, use the 2nd and 4th going away from the cpu, if it comes with only 2 you're golden.

Slight correction...

4 slots, not channels.  Consumer boards only have 2 channels, just doubled up.

Otherwise you're correct.

Dual CHANNEL works fine, dual RANK no.

Are those kits with the chips on both sides.

Yes, 2Rx8 organization. I've ran 3800 CL14-13-13-21  with dual rank memory just fine

Then you are super lucky... My Ryzens never booted with dual rank ram kits, only worked with single rank sticks.

It's been with 3 different Ryzen systems and even more different kits. Given the amount of other people I've seen who have had it work just fine, I'd say it's more likely the opposite: you've just been super unlucky with it.

You technically could but 2400mhz is very slow, I recommend 3200.
