I recently completed a long-distance move and just got around to reassembling my PC, but I haven't been able to get it to boot. When I plug in power to the system, the 'ready' light on the motherboard will come on and the power button on the motherboard itself will light up, but neither pressing the power button on the case nor the power button on the motherboard itself have any effect with the system not starting. The post code display does not light up with anything and there are no post code beeps.

While I've tried most of the obvious troubleshooting items I could think of, I'm interested in any advice on what might be the most likely cause (and what component would be the most likely culprit). Most of the system components (other than the graphics card and PSU) are getting fairly due for an update anyway, so I'm not fussed if I need to replace anything, but it would be good to have an idea which component is most likely to be the problem child before I start replacing everything.

I feel like the most likely culprit would be the CPU? Years ago I had accidently bent a few of the pins during a prior move, but was able to re-straighten them and never had any trouble with the system afterwards. When re-installing the CPU this time, I checked the pins which all looked good as far as I could tell, and the CPU slotted into the motherboard easily without any issue.

  • I'm reasonably sure CPU and CPU cooler have been re-installed properly (tried removing and reseating it to check)
  • All power cables (motherboard, CPU, GPU, SSD) seem to be fully and securely connected at each end
  • I've checked all of the case fans and cpu fans seem to be installed properly / plugs in correct orientation
  • I've checked front panel connectors installed properly (regardless, testing the system using the power button directly on the motherboard also did not work)
  • The graphics card is connected to motherboard with a riser cable, tried briefly removing the riser cable and plugging card directly into motherboard
    • I also tested with an older 1080TI I still had lying around, but also did not start
  • System had been functioning fine for several years without issue prior to move

Specs:

  • CPU AMD Ryzen 7 1800X
  • Motherboard Asus Crosshair Hero VI Wifi-AC
  • RAM 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHZ
  • GPU EVGA RTX 3090 XC3 Ultra
    • Note: connected to motherboard via a PCIE3 riser cable (small form factor case)
  • Main Storage 512GB Samsung 960 Pro NVME
  • Secondary Storage 4TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD
  • PSU Silverstone SX800-LTI 800W Titanium SFX-L PSU

No code no beep means the board doesnt even get to any starting step

Try no gpu riser and remove the system from the case.

Then if nothing try without ANYTHING in the board and see if post codes happen as it should do something.

If the cpu is cooked somehow a 1700x is pike 35$ or so super cheap but well wouldnt get something thatnold anymore and justbger a new chip.

The main reason for that behavior is that the 24-pins connector from the PSU to the motherboard is loose. This is a big connector and unless you completely disconnect and reconnect it, this is very hard to make sure it is 100% inserted.

While at it, you can also disconnect and reconnect all power cables, there ain't that many.

Hope that helps.
